PENALTY! England 3-3 Australia. A very comfortable kick for Farrell from right in front of the posts. England level the scores.

Rob Horne is an early casualty, receiving some treatment on the field to his left elbow. He is replaced by the dangerous Kurtley Beale.

Farrell to Watson, brilliantly, running the ball through the centre of the field. It takes a huge hit from Foley to bring Watson down but England hold on to it. Now Joseph takes a run at the Australian line ... eventually England get the penalty. It'll be a scrum to the hosts on the 25m line.

PENALTY! England 0-3 Australia. A comparatively easy kick for Foley as he drills the ball right through the centre of the posts. Australia, deservedly, have the early lead.
6'
Genia to Foley, England offside under the posts. Hooper driven backwards by Ben Morgan. Genia to Pocock, Foley with the cross kick. Folau collects the ball but it is lost forward as he goes over the line. Australia will come back for the penalty.
4'
Australia spread the ball across the field from right to left but Folau holds on to the ball just a second too long and is thumped to the ground. Knock on from England though and Australia have the put in to the scrum, just over five metres from the line this time.
3'
Foley shows England how it should be done with a delightful chip towards the corner. Brown collects but then puts a foot in touch and Australia have the lineout just five metres from the line.
2'
Youngs chips the ball upfield for his players to chase but he doesn't quite get his angle right and also over-kicks slightly and it goes straight out over the dead ball line. Scrum Australia.

Farrell gets the clash underway, punting his ball upfield towards the right wing...

Just a couple of minutes behind schedule. The players are just about ready to go and it will be England to get things underway...
19:55
The players are making their way out of the tunnel and out on to the pitch for the national anthems, first England and then Australia.

England have won four of their last five clashes against Australia. Such is the irregularity of their meetings, that England's last defeat at the hands of the Wallabies came back in 2012. Here are the last five results between the two:11/29/2014 England 26-17 Australia; 11/2/2013 England 20-13 Australia; 11/17/2012 England 14-20 Australia; 11/13/2010 England 35-18 Australia; 6/19/2010 Australia 20-21 England
19:45
This may have been labelled a do-or-die clash for England, it's far from unimportant for Australia either. Yes, they have two wins to their name from their first two clashes at this World Cup but they have faced the two "easier" teams in the pool so far. They still have Wales to come and heading into that clash with a loss against England today will make that a very tough clash for them.
19:40
Stuart Lancaster has given a call-to-arms ahead of the match.

So, Gareth Thomas thinks England will win – you can read his thoughts here:
19:30
The permutations of Pool A may seem complicated to the three teams still in with a realistic chance of progressing to the knockout stage, but for hosts England one thing is clear: lose and you're out. Yet on the streets around Twickenham fans are optimistic.
