Scotland 17-25 New Zealand result - Late Damian McKenzie heroics dash Murrayfield hopes and give All Blacks win in Quilter Nations Series

Damian McKenzie scored a fantastic late try to drag the All Blacks over the line against Scotland in a thrilling Quilter Nations Series match at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

The game looked a foregone conclusion at half-time after Will Jordan scored a try in the 40th minute, adding to Cam Roigard's early score, giving the visitors a 17-0 lead.

This scoreline was harsh on Scotland who were mostly on level terms in a brutal exhibition of Test rugby tackling.

Scotland could not take advantage of Leroy Carter's sin bin at the end of the first half, but the game turned as Ewan Ashman went in from a rolling maul and New Zealand skipper Ardie Savea was sin-binned.

Kyle Steyn scored another try with Scotland having the man advantage and, after Darcy Graham fumbled just before touching down in the corner, Finn Russell's penalty moved the scores level.

With Wallace Sititi then given a yellow card for a deliberate knock on it felt like Scotland could gain their first win over the All Blacks.

Enter, McKenzie who kicked a ridiculous 50-22 to five metres from the Scotland line and then, when the ball came out to the left wing, he somehow avoided being put into touch and rolled down over the line. He rubber-stamped victory with a long penalty kick with barely a minute on the clock.

New Zealand move on to play England at Twickenham next Saturday, while Scotland host Argentina 24 hours later.

There was such hope again when they drew level on the hour mark but it just brought more disappointment when McKenzie's class got the All Blacks in white over the line.

With blood streaming down his face, he kicks the ball 50m and between the posts to surely secure victory.

And it is like the air has gone out of the stadium. They have the ball in midfield with just over three minutes left.

After the fine try, McKenzie misses the, admittedly difficult, kick by a long way.

Scotland managed to Savea up from the maul but then Fainga'anuku off-loaded to McKenzie who managed to stay in bounds and hold off two tackles, stays in bounds and roll over the line in the corner.

But they were offside very earlier in the move so there will be another line out.

New Zealand are now back to 15 players too.

McKenzie with an incredible 60m kick going out of bounds 5m from the Scotland line.

There is barely two minutes left where they will have the man advantage.

For a moment he would have thought he had a famous moment Dempsey when he raced from the halfway line into the 22 earlier in this half.

Can he bring his ballast to the scrum now?

Sititi sticks his hand out to stop a pass going to Steyn. So Scotland will have an extra man for another ten minutes.

What a monumental last 20 minutes this could be.

Dempsey races into the 22 and Russell kicks wide to Graham but a fine tackle denies him. McKenzie did not retreat though meaning Russell will have a chance to level from a penalty kick.

The crowd roared but he knew he hadn't touched down as he was dragged over the line by Roigard. A great pass outside to him by Kinghorn set up the chance.

Now New Zealand are back to 15 men.

White within inches of the line as he is held back by his bootlaces by Lakai. And then Schoeman charges forward and loses the ball in the tackle from Codie Taylor.

The deficit is three...and still four minutes with an extra man!

Pandemonium in Murrayfield! A great run from Tuipolutu who takes the ball close ot the line, before the ball goes wide to Steyn who runs in from the left wing and takes territory beyond the try line to make it an easier conversion.

And Russell kicks to the corner once more. Can they repeat the rolling maul from the right corner?

Scotland are definitely back in the game after Russell's kick.
