ENGLAND GET QUILTER NATIONS SERIES OFF TO PERFECT START WITH DOMINANT WIN OVER AUSTRALIA
England got their Quilter Nations Series off to the ideal start with a 25-7 win over spirited Australia in Twickenham.
Both sides struggled for a breakthrough before Ben Earl went over after 20 minutes to put the hosts in control.
England dominated the tackles and metres gained throughout, but Australia's turnovers kept them in with a chance.
Harry Potter was central to this, saving two near-certain tries and running the length of the field to reduce the deficit to three.
The match remained in the balance until Steve Borthwick brought on his Lions replacements, whose fresh legs and quality drove England forward.
Henry Pollock, Alexander Mitchell and Luke Cowan-Dickie all crossed over in the last 20 minutes as the Wallabies faded to seal a dominant win.
It sets England up perfectly to remain a top seed for the 2027 World Cup draw, and will hope to carry this momentum to next week's clash against Fiji, live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

FORD: WE FELT DOMINANT BUT LEFT A FEW TRIES OUT THERE
England fly-half George Ford, speaking to TNT Sports, said: "First game is notoriously a bit difficult. We felt dominant but left a few tries out there.
"We felt dominant, we felt we had field position, we felt we were moving the ball well but you look at the scoreboard but it is only 10-7.
"We had to regroup and calm down a little bit. We managed to get there in the end.
On the 'bomb squad' coming on off the bench, he said: "It was Steve's plan all week. That's where the squad's at. Steve could pick anyone in the starting XV or bench. We are developing a squad that believes they can win whatever 23 Steve picks.
"You know you are part of a proper squad. This is gonna be good. Training levels have gone through the roof and we always want to improve and hopefully that ends in results."

EARL: A YEAR AGO WE MIGHT NOT HAVE WON THIS GAME
England player of the match Ben Earl, speaking to TNT Sports, said: "We found a way to win and that is something we judge ourselves on.
"We prepared for this weather so when it came we knew we could brave it up and we're really pleased.
"The experience we have learned over the last 18 months came through today. A year ago we might not have won this game so we are very pleased."

ENGLAND'S QUALITY ULTIMATELY PAYS OFF
Job done for England, and plenty for Steve Borthwick to be encouraged about. They were relentless and turned the screw towards the end of the match to battle the conditions and get an ultimately comfortable win.
Australia were spirited throughout but the difference was the two benches. England brought on their star players with the score 10-7 and Cowan-Dickie and Pollock were amongst the tries as the hosts pressed home their advantage in a raucous Twickenham.
Next up is Fiji, before clashes against New Zealand and Argentina.

FULL TIME! ENGLAND 25-7 AUSTRALIA
There is a bit of a skirmish in the dying minutes as Ellis Genge looks to take on three Aussies at once.
Australia go for one last attack and Pollock gets sinbinned with the clock in the red. But Australia are held up.
That will be all. It was a nervy match for England for the first hour, but ultimately their world-class replacements were the difference at the end as they ended with a late flourish to win comfortably.

BORTHWICK'S GAMBLE PAYS OFF THIS AFTERNOON
Ben Earl takes the first Quilter Nations Series player of the match this year. It was his try that got the ball rolling after England struggled to test Australia's defence.
But Borthwick's gamble to start six Lions on the bench has paid dividends as the fresh forwards have come on to push his side over the line.

TRY! ENGLAND 25-7 AUSTRALIA (COWAN-DICKIE)
England have the power now! They are bearing down on the try-line as Australia are out of energy.
The maul drives forward and forward from outside the 22 and Cowan-Dickie is there amongst all of it to get another try for England!
Fin Smith, freshly on, skews the kick wide and it is another missed conversion but it should not matter

TRY! ENGLAND 20-7 AUSTRALIA (MITCHELL)
England are chasing a game-killing try here. Australia survive the lineout deep in their territory though and win a scrum. However, Paisami is crawling and England can kick into touch again.
England's maul holds firm before Mitchell drives forward into a gap and the scrum-half gets the try! That should be that! It's another missed conversion for Ford though.

THE STADIUM HAS COME ALIVE WITH POLLOCK'S HEROICS
TNT Sports Reporter Rob Hemingway reporting live from Twickenham Stadium: "You almost knew it was coming, but it's still astonishing how Henry Pollock - still only 20 - strolls into a tight, full-blooded international and makes the stage his own.
"Scooping up for a left-handed pick-up was one thing, but more to the point is - like a poaching striker - how he consistently manages to find himself in the right place at the right time as a support runner, smelling out attacking opportunities.
"The stadium has come alive with his heroics."

STEWARD HAVING A STRONG PERFORMANCE IN WHITE
Steward finds Pollock again, but this time he runs into trouble and gets isolated. Australia win the penalty, but could England have played that better?
The full-back has had a strong game today, driving forward into space after some clean gathers.
He recovers the ball off Jorgensen again to halt a dangerous Australian counter.

WHAT DO AUSTRALIA HAVE LEFT IN THEM?
Twenty minutes left now. What do Australia have left in the tank? The deficit is only eight points.
They give away a cheap penalty from a scrum to allow England an easy exit from their half though and Ford kicks forward.

TRY! ENGLAND 15-7 AUSTRALIA (POLLOCK)
Pollock gathers a loose kick and bursts forward! He's glancing at the big screen ready to celebrate but he stumbles!
However, he is close enough to pick himself up and goes over! Ford skews the kick though.

AUSTRALIA HOLDING FIRM
England need to make this period count and build a cushion in the next ten minutes. Australia have been fantastic though and are not giving England any freebies.
They change hookers, bringing on Josh Nasser, and produce a very fine scrum and clearance to get the ball out to the halfway line.
