Wales 31-17 Italy recap - Aaron Wainwright scores two tries as hosts secure first Six Nations win since 2023

Wales ended a turbulent Six Nations campaign in splendid fashion to end their 15-game losing streak in the tournament.

No. 8 Aaron Wainwright ended a good personal tournament with the first two tries to give Cardiff belief.

Another good performer in losing causes, skipper Dewi Lake rode over the line on the back of a rolling maul to give a huge advantage at the break.

Dan Edwards, whose goal kicking was perfect throughout the championship, ran in for another four minutes into the second half which effectively ended the Italian challenge.

Italy did get on the board with tries from Tommaso Di Bartolomeo and Allan before Paolo Garbisi scored with the last touch of the game.

They held on a bit in the last 20 minutes but it was a fantastic performance which will give their fans hope for the future.

Garbisi is on hand to touch down in the right corner with the last move of the game. He misses the ensuing kick.

The try is disallowed. He was just short and knocked on when tackled by Botham.

The Italy substitute is awarded a try as he stretched over the line just before losing the ball. Again TMO will check.

Harsh for Ioane but his leg just brushed the touchline before he touched the ball down.

Wales are managing to make their fans a bit nervy. A great burst to run in just inside from the corner flag. We will check it with TMO though.

Allan was denied a try on the right wing by a fine tackle from Adams, but when the ball was moved to the left he was on hand to dive over and score Italy's second try.

Mennoncello broke through the Welsh line and looked on his way to a try but Adams came across to bring him down on the 22 with a tap tackle. The Wales defence then gang-tackled Ioane into touch.

A couple of times in the last few minutes Welsh attacks have been stunted by knock ons.

The sin-bin clock has elapsed and we are back to 15-vs-15.

He slaloms through the Italian defence before a fine offload eventually sees James run into the 22 where he is crunched into touch by Lynagh.
