PREM Rugby LIVE - Newcastle Red Bulls take on Bristol Bears

Bristol moved into fourth spot with a comprehensive win at Newcastle. The Bears moved above Exeter, level with them on points but ahead on games won. 

They still have the worst points difference in the top five, but they are now on course for the play-offs and their 26-point win margin will go some way to helping that deficit. 

The visitors needed just 11 minutes to score through Richard Lane - who injured himself in the process - and then a minute later his replacement, Kalaveti Ravouvou, added another. 

Tom Jordan scored on 25 minutes in response to Brocklebank's try for the home team - his first in PREM rugby. 

After the restart, Noah Heward needed two minutes to add another for Bristol, and only two more minutes later Matias Moroni scored against his former side. Christian Wade and Josh Hodge added tries for the home team, with Janse van Rensburg scoring a brace to keep Bristol's score ticking over.

For the home side, it is another dispiriting defeat, their 13th of the season after 14 games in the league, while for Bristol it tees them up for a strong end to the campaign.

Bristol move up into fourth, above Exeter. They have 47 points, and are above Exeter because they have two more wins so far this season. Their points difference is the worst of the top five, so tonight has gone some way to addressing that. Newcastle, well, remain bottom.

They push the maul over the line, one Bristol player joining after another, and places the ball down for a simple try, which is then converted.

A sustained period of possession from the visitors sees the ball moved right to Van Resnburg, who touches down after just a couple of strides. The conversion is difficult, and missed.

The new signing pulls one back. Newcastle work the ball out left and Hodge boshes into a couple of challenges, spinning around to his right and over the line. He then converts his own try.

He wriggles free of a few arms around his torso and drives to the lefto the posts, setting up a simple conversion.

The points difference could be given a leg-up, so you may see some more all-out attacking from the visitors.

The incisive attacker bursts down the right to reach a kick before anyone else, and he slides in to cut the deficit a little. That's his 95th PREM try.

The former Newcastle man picks up a bouncing ball on the wing, he darts inside and drives towards the posts for, this time, a missed conversion.

Jordan's quick hands and powerful running opens up space. There's some quick ball afterwards to get the ball out to the left, and Heward touches down. The try is converted, and Bristol are 28-5 clear, and they have a bonus point.

A late spell of pressure for Newcastle with seconds remaining comes now. The home side are searching for an opening to make a late dent in the deficit. A knock-on brings the half to a close. See you in a little while.
