Exeter 28-35 Northampton result - Saints' Smith snatches win with final touch in Gallagher PREM thriller

Fin Smith's try with the last touch of the match secured victory for Northampton at Exeter, ending a thrilling match in fitting fashion.

Exeter dominated the early play with Immanuel Feyi-Waboso and Will Rigg scoring early on to put the leaders on the back foot.

Northampton stealthily got back into the match and, after Alexander Mitchell got the Saints on the board in his first start back after injury, Ollie Sleightholme scored on the cusp of half time to level the scores.

The second half veered one way than the other with Ridl giving the Chiefs the lead before, soon after Feyi-Waboso's yellow card, George Furbank brought the scores level.

After Ridl's yellow saw the Chiefs briefly reduced to 13 men, it looked like Henry Pollock had given the visitors victory. But an incredible charge-down from Paul Brown-Bampoe got the hosts level three minutes from time.

Then, with the last play of the match, a line break from Dingwall opened up a chance and Smith ran in to seal victory, naturally converting his try before launching into celebration.

What a fitting end to the match.

After a bad initial kick for the corner, a brilliant charge down from Brown-Bampoe blocked a Saints kick out and he also ran the race to tap down to secure the try.

After his side were stopped a couple of times just before the line Pollock ran back to the line so he could receive the ball and drove through Skinner en route to what could be the winning try.

Ridl goes off, penalized for not rolling out of the ruck, and for just under a minute the Chiefs will be playing with 13 men.

He leap up to get in the way of a wide pass and when you fail to grab the ball, you are always going to get a yellow card.

The line break took the Saints into the 22 but Hooper caught up and made a tackle before Ridl stole the ball in the ruck and, a little fortuitously, is awarded a penalty.

The goal-kicking has been perfect so far and the Chiefs slot one between the sticks from near the touchline.
