SARACENS WIN IN 12-TRY THRILLER
A late double from wing Rotimi Segun after a 20-minute red card for flanker Nick Isiekwe allowed Saracens to claim a 40-38 victory in their first match since the return of Brendon Venter as director of rugby.
Tigers, meanwhile, will rue a few missed opportunities despite a hat-trick from Wales international Gabriel Hamer-Webb and an excellent debut for Aaron Wainwright.
The visitors started strongly with two tries in the opening 10 minutes after an early score from flanker Juan Martin-Gonzalez in the first two minutes before wing Tobias Elliott scored a second.
It was a mixed day for Elliott, who was bumped off by Australian Solomone Kata as he crossed for the Tigers' first points of the season after 15 minutes, before Hamer-Webb scored his first after 26 minutes.
England full-back Elliot Daly added a third Saracens score before half-time, while the final few minutes of the half saw back row Ben Earl filling in at No. 12 after an injury to Olly Hartley and a HIA for wing Tobias.
Earl returned to the back row for the second half, but it was Tigers' blindside Wainwright who set up the next score with a break before Hamer-Webb grabbed his second.
The English No. 8 did barge over the line a few minutes later but the end-to-end feel continued as the Wales wing scored his third after 50 minutes.
After seeing his team-mate score three, Adam Radwan pounced on a Jack Van Poortvilet kick to give his side the lead for the first time in the 53rd minute before Saracens were reduced to 14 players with Isiekwe's red card after a high tackle on Freddie Steward.
But Saracens were able to find a way as wing Segun scored his first on the hour mark, yet it looked like Tigers were going to hold on after a try by replacement James Thompson.
Yet with seven minutes to play, Segun scored his second in the corner to seal a dramatic victory.
