Pole position for Casey Stoner! Pedrosa second, Lorenzo third, and Valentino Rossi down in 12th!
As the flag comes out, Dani Pedrosa foes into second ahead of Jorge Lorenzo! We see the Stoner incident - he seemed to have a mechanical problem and just ran off.
STONER IS DOWN!! He stuffs his Honds into the barriers - he'll still probably be on pole, but how much damage has he done to the bike?
Cal Crutchlow goes into ninth - very promising display from the Briton.
Colin Edwards crashes! Not much more than the Texan's pride damaged. He must hope he is not pushed too far down from his present eighth place.
Ben Spies has a spill, a straightforward lowside but that could be it for his session.
Simoncelli leapfrogs Spies to go into fourth. Rossi is back into 10th - a fourth row start looming!
Stoner improves his best time, while De Puniet has a spill. No major damage to man or machine, though. His session would appear to be over.
1-Stoner, 2-Pedrosa, 3-Lorenzo, 4-Spies, 5-Simoncelli, 6-De Puniet, 7-Edwards, 8-Aoyama.
Rossui is still down in ninth and comes into the pits with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Brilliant lap by Casey Stoner! 1:38.820! Out of nowhere, he obliterates Pedrosa's time - it's the fastest of the weekend!
Lorenzo looks set to beat the 1:39 mark, miles ahead after three splits - but he loses all his advantage and more in the final sector! Mysterious...
Dani Pedrosa on a quick lap - 1:39.108!! Fastest! Brilliant stuff from the Honda man.
Lorenzo is just ahead of his own best lap at the second split - he clocks a 1:39.127! Three tenths faster, and he is over half a second ahead of the field!
Rossi works his way up into sixth. He's the fastest Ducati again, ahead of De Puniet - but only briefly as the Frenchman goes into fourth!
Hopkins now into 12th with a 1:40.0, his best lap of the weekend so far.
John Hopkins is standing in for the injured Alvaro Bautista for Suzuki, and currently stands a creditable 13th.
Hiro Aoyama clocks a 1:40.168, his best of the day. He is still struggling after that spill earlier.
A little bit of a lull as we go into the second half of this session. Remember, you can watch it LIVE on British Eurosport 2 and
Abraham has gone off - no great surprise given the trouble he had controlling his Cardion Ducati. Randy De Puniet goes sixth and is now the fastest Ducati.
We see a replay of a huge wobble from Karel Abraham, with the front tyre bouncing right off the ground!
Aoyama is still in his beaten-up leathers, and can even spare a wave for the cameras as he gets ready to come back out. Brave man.
Valentino Rossi is on the spare bike and back out on track... he is well off the pace at the moment.
Lorenzo is back out, although he has not come close to matching that excellent early lap, which is still the quickest of the day.
Good to see Hiroshi Aoyama back in the Gresini Honda garage.
How they stand: 1-Lorenzo 1:39.430; 2-Pedrosa +0.347, 3-Pedrosa +0.653; 4-Stoner, 5-Aoyama, 6-Spies, 7-Rossi, 8-Crutchlow.
The field takes a collective breather, with the majority of bikes coming back into the pits. Rossi has also returned and he does not look best pleased.
Now Aoyama is down! He loses the front and gets hit by the bike on his left leg as he goes down. That is very painful, and he stays on the gravel. He is motioning tyo the marshals as they put him on a stretcher.
ROSSI IS DOWN!! His Ducati hits the deck and he storms off! He just lost the front on a routine left-hander - Ducati are running out of bikes.
Stoner goes into third place with a 1:40.3. He went over a second quicker this morning in practice.

Lorenzo laps in 1:39.430, and that's his fastest of the weekend! The Yamaha man has not been a happy chap this weekend, and he is taking his anger out on this track!
1:39.789 is the early marker from Jorge Lorenzo.
All the main protagonists come straight out on the track, including Pedrosa who is still hampered by a collarbone injury.
