TNT Sports expert Sylvain Guintoli has said that Jorge Martin issued “a really strong statement” with his victory in the Portuguese Grand Prix race. The Spaniard came home ahead of Italian Enea Bastianini, with his compatriot Pedro Acosta impressively completing the podium in third. Marc Marquez, Francesco Bagnaia, and Maverick Vinales all crashed out in the chasing pack.

‘Big relief’ for Martin after claiming dominant win in Portugal

TNT Sports expert Sylvain Guintoli has said that Jorge Martin issued “a really strong statement” with victory in the Portuguese Grand Prix.
The Spaniard came home ahead of Italian Enea Bastianini in second, and his compatriot Pedro Acosta in third place.
The Prima-Pramac rider produced an exceptional display while chaos ensued behind him, with Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP) and defending champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) both crashing out after they collided in the fight for fifth with two laps to go.
Sprint winner Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing) also crashed out in an incident down the final straight.
However, Martin kept his composure to deliver an impressive display on a circuit that he has had some history on.
“Jorge Martin nearly undid his career here in his first year of MotoGP,” Guintoli said on TNT Sports. “He had a massive crash in Turn 7, multiple fractures.
"He was sidelined for a very long time and it took him a long time to get back to full fitness.
“For a rider, when you come back to the very place you got hurt, mentally it’s difficult to feel confident. Every time you go for that corner, you have a little bit of doubt.
“For Jorge, this is a really strong statement that will do his confidence good. It was already high anyway - but watch out.”
