The future of Marc Marquez for 2024 is known with his switch to Ducati satellite team Gresini Racing, but beyond that is unclear. However, the legendary rider has stressed that he doesn’t have to be back winning regularly to keep racing. He said that finding the joy in racing will come from another direction and he wants to feel the spark with the bike as well as competing.

'We will see' – Marc Marquez says he 'needs' to enjoy next season amid doubts about future

MotoGP superstar Marc Marquez has stressed that to “enjoy” doesn’t mean to “win” ahead of his switch to Ducati Gresini Racing Team.
Marquez will join the Ducati satellite team to race alongside younger brother Alex in a monumental departure from long-standing team Honda.
In an interview with TNT Sports at the recent Indonesian Grand Prix, Alex said that he thinks Marc wants to enjoy racing again, and if he doesn’t find that he will consider retiring.
When asked about Alex’s comments by TNT Sports at Philip Island ahead of the Australia Grand Prix, Marc thanked his brother for his help but did stress that enjoying racing does not mean he has to start winning regularly again.
“My brother is the one that suffered with me on all that for three, four years, and yeah, there were many times when I was in a very deep moment.
“But yeah, what I said when I announced [the decision] is that I’m looking for a way to enjoy it on the track, and it’s what I need and what I will try to do next year.
“If you have nice work but you are not enjoying it, you can do it for a few years, but the main target is to try and enjoy it.
“This doesn’t mean win. To enjoy means riding a bike, trying to understand the bike beyond the top five or six positions in a consistent way. So yeah, that will be the main target, but we will see.”
Alex told TNT Sports at the Indonesian Grand Prix: "He was changing his mind every day. So I spoke with him, not every day, about that. But then one day, I said ‘you’re changing a lot, so I will give you my opinion as a brother, not as a Gresini Ducati rider’.
“From 2020, I think he needed that change, he needed to recover the feeling and passion, because I saw him on the Motegi podium, not happy, as normal Marc is. So I said ‘okay, you need a change’.
“He said he wanted to go to a small team. Not saying that a small team is not professional, we are really professional, but the team looks like a small family. We are always together.

If he doesn't enjoy it, he will retire - Alex Marquez on brother Marc's switch to Gresini

“This can help Marc to enjoy [his time] again on the bike and on the track. We’ll see, his one-year contract is to see if he’ll enjoy it again.
“He said to me that if he doesn’t enjoy it he will retire, that’s a possibility.”
