Jorge Martin will miss second round of season, says Aprilia principal Massimo Rivola - 'For sure not in Argentina'

Aprilia Racing will have to do without defending world champion Jorge Martin for at least two races to start the 2025 MotoGP season. Martin suffered a serious fracture to his wrist and the team already confirmed that he would miss the opening weekend in Thailand. Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of the new season, team principal Massimo Rivola confirmed that Martin will also not be back for Argentina.

Defending world champion Jorge Martin will miss at least the second round of the MotoGP season in Argentina, Aprilia team principal Massimo Rivola has confirmed to TNT Sports.
Martin was injured during a training run and suffered a number of fractures, notably a serious one to his wrist.
It has already been confirmed that Martin will miss the opening weekend in Thailand but now speaking to TNT Sports ahead of the opener, Rivola confirmed that he will miss Argentina as well at least.
Rivola didn't give any more of a time frame as it will depend on how the recovery goes, but he did say that the surgery went well and they will not rush Martin back on the bike.
He also confirmed that Lorenzo Savadoria will most likely replace Martin again in Argentina, as he is doing in Thailand.
"According to what the doctor said – and luckily he was in very good hands – everything went right and now it’s time to just wait for the recovery," Rivola told TNT Sports in Thailand.
"The fracture was quite bad. Normal people would take a lot of time but superheroes [are] like riders and Jorge will cut a lot of time [off a normal recovery timeframe], but for sure we won’t put him on the bike if he’s not in very good shape.
He continued: "We agreed on Monday to have a bit of a shakedown of his body to get the feeling of the right hand and left foot to understand how he could feel before jumping to MotoGP.
"In MotoGP it’s quite severe for the body so using a motard it’s quite easy but at least good to get a feeling of his physical condition. Eventually, it went totally wrong and here we are.
"He feels sorry, he feels s*** but he’s a warrior, he’s a fighter, a gladiator and he will fight to recover as soon as possible but as I said, we want to be sure that he’s fine, so we don’t want to make any mistakes to rush him coming back.

"I don’t know [when he will be back], for sure not in Argentina, so I think in Argentina we’ll have Sava [Lorenzo Savadori] again to replace him, and then we will see. I think we will need to see every week, every day how he is recovering and then looking at his season and his career and his history with Aprilia with a long-term vision more than a short-term vision.
Reflecting on whether this constitutes a blow to Martin's title ambitions at this early stage, Rivola said: "Honestly I’m not even thinking about that.
"The priority is the recovery and the priority is when he will jump back in the bike to get a bit of feeling. Luckily we saw Marco in a very good shape so that shows that the bike is there and maybe this will be an additional motivation for Jorge to be in super-shape when he will be back."
