MARQUEZ FEASTS ON YAMAHA’S SPOILS ON HOME SOIL
Six-time world champion Marc Marquez cruised to victory on home soil at Circuito de Jerez, claiming his eighth victory in nine races this season.
Marquez smashed the premier class record for most sprint victories in succession, collecting his fifth in a row at the Spanish Grand Prix.
His younger brother Alex Marquez is also shining in glory after taking his fifth second-place sprint finish this season in front of his home crowd.
It was another third-place finish for Francesco Bagnaia as all six Ducati riders finished in the top six positions.
Pole-sitter Fabio Quartararo, however, suffered an unfortunate sprint result, retiring on Lap 2 after running too wide into the infamous Turn 6.

MARC MARQUEZ: IN FRONT OF HOME CROWD, I HAVE EXTRA POWER
The six-time world champion has picked up yet another victory at his home race, the Spanish Grand Prix, with an eighth victory in just nine races.
He inherited the win on the second lap after the pole-sitter Fabio Quartararo crashed out of the race, and Marquez cruised to the top step of the podium.
Marquez said: "Yeah, of course, today was not easy, especially with this warm temperature.
"It changes the feeling a lot, but I already spoke about it.
"So yeah, I struggled a bit in the end, but I was controlling the race.
"I hate the sprint race because I'm super happy, but I just want to control my emotions because tomorrow is the most important day.
"But in front of this crowd, you know you have this extra power."

ALEX MARQUEZ: "WE STARTED THE SPRINT BLIND"
Gresini rider Alex Marquez earned his fifth sprint second-place result of the season in his best premier class campaign so far.
The young rider managed to jump Francesco Bagnaia in the early stages of the sprint and cruise to a second-place finish behind his brother Marc.
Marquez enjoyed yet another podium finish but this time in front of his home crowd and parents at Circuito de Jerez.
Marquez said: "I mean, it was not easy.
"Yesterday, a big one [crash], but this crowd is pushing me.
"I just made a really good start.
"We're talking back about that point, the start of the race, at the time, I was feeling really good.
"I mean, we aren't delayed on the work. We just didn't make nearly 10 laps with this condition.
"So today we started the sprint race a little bit blind.
"So I just tried to be really concentrated, tried to go into the finish.
"I hope that tomorrow we'll make the top step like this guy [Marc] did today, and we'll be able to find a little bit more pace."

BAGNAIA: "BOTH BROTHERS ARE DOING A BETTER JOB"
Francesco Bagnaia settled for yet another third-place finish behind the Marquez brothers, who share glory at their home race.
Bagnaia hoped to put up a fight for the victory but was quickly overtaken by Alex Marquez and failed to catch up to the Gresini.
Bagnaia said: "Around here is something incredible.
"Only here can you see this kind of crowd, and it's fantastic.
"So I'm very happy to be here on the podium, for starting the sprint here, but not second this time.
"But I need to work. I need to improve.
"Both brothers are doing a better job than us in the sprint races, and we need to improve.
"But step by step, step by step, we were getting closer, and we will continue working.
"Tomorrow is another day, and we'll try again."

MARQUEZ CLOSE TO VICTORY
The rookies seem to be doing incredibly well at the Grand Prix Spain. 20-year-old Fermin Aldeguer is currently running in fifth place after climbing two positions from his qualifying place. The young Gresini rider has performed far better than expected, adjusting to the premier class well. His fellow rookie Ai Ogura, who stunned in the opening round, engages in a fight for 11th place with Brad Binder.
Marc Marquez retained the lead of the race, holding off his brother Alex throughout the sprint race. The top three have remained the same since the second lap, where the polesitter Fabio Quartararo crashed out. It appears to be a quiet race for Bagnaia, who can't close the gap to the Gresini rider in second place.
The VR46 riders Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio occupy the fourth and sixth places respectively, as they are set to pick up some crucial points for the team.

DUCATI DOMINATING THE TOP THREE (AS USUAL)
What should have been a glorious day for Yamaha has taken a turn for the worst. With Fabio Quartararo retiring from the race and Augusto Fernandez running in 17th place, their hopes for the victory have certainly dwindled.
Meanwhile, at the front of the pack, Marc Marquez leads the pack around Circuito de Jerez comfortably ahead of his brother. Alex Marquez, however, is matching the lap times of Marc and is starting to close in on the six-time world champion. The third Ducati in the top three, Francesco Bagnaia, is also matching the pace of the race leaders but cannot seem to catch up to Alex.
Marco Bezzecchi has enjoyed a jump up to eighth place, gaining three positions so far in the sprint. He currently battles with KTM rider Maverick Vinales for seventh place while his teammates sit just beneath the points-scoring positions.

MARQUEZ LEADS THE PACK AROUND JEREZ
Marc Marquez leads the pack around Circuito de Jerez after inheriting the lead from polesitter Fabio Quartararo who crashed out at Turn 6 on Lap 2. His younger brother Alex Marquez follows 1.2s behind the Factory Ducati rider who cruises around the circuit.
His teammate Francesco Bagnaia seems to be comfortable in third place, but Franco Morbidelli is just 0.5s behind the two-time world champ. The battle for second place is heating up as Bagnaia attempts to pick up the pace and attack the Gresini rider.
Another rider, Jack Miller, went down at Turn 6, but the race went on. The corner is especially tricky as it is narrow and quick. One more driver, Johann Zarco, has dropped out of the race after crashing at Turn 2.

QUARTARARO CRASHED OUT OF THE RACE
Fabio Quartararo has crashed out of the Grand Prix Spain sprint race on Lap 2, as he lost his bike heading into Turn 6. The Yamaha rider was defending his lead from the six-time world champion Marc Marquez, but ran too wide into Turn 6 and skidded into the corner. This crash can largely be attributed to the speed differences between the bikes carried into the corner.
While Yamaha is blisteringly quick, the Ducati is much smoother around the corners - which is why Marquez was able to make the dive into the turn and pull it off. Marquez inherits the lead of the sprint race.

QUARTARARO ALREADY UNDER PRESSURE FROM MARQUEZ
Marc Marquez got off to an amazing start, overtaking Fabio Quartararo off the line. However, the fight ensued into the first corner where Quartararo snatched back his lead into the first sector. Chaos unfolded behind between the Ducatis as Alex Marque jumped Francesco Bagnaia for third place as he tailed his older brother through the first lap.
The rookies have shown up in style as Fermin Aldeguer engaged in a fierce battle with Fabio Di Giannantonio for sixth place. Aldeguer almost lost his bike at Turn 11 on the opening lap but was both quick and lucky enough to save it and remain on track.

RIDERS PREP FOR THE GRAND PRIX SPAIN SPRINT
The current crop of MotoGP riders have set foot on the Circuito de Jerez grid, preparing for a thrilling sprint race around the fan favourite track. Pay close attention to the entry to the iconic first corner, with the narrow and fast entry catching out rookies and veterans alike.
Tyre wear problems are unlikely to be an issue during the sprint race, as the conditions are as good as it gets for racing. It is warm in Jerez with a cool breeze across the track.

CAN THE DUCATIS DENY YAMAHA’S LONG-AWAITED VICTORY?
It is shaping up to be the perfect weekend for Yamaha. The team has just tested a V4 engine for its M1 MotoGP machine during the private Valencia test, with great results being reported. Their star rider, Fabio Quartararo, claimed that the V4 is the engine to beat.
Paired with the pole position Quartararo picked up earlier today, the future is looking bright for Yamaha. This is, until Ducati comes along. The Ducati riders have been fastest on track all weekend, apart from the shocking qualifying session which saw the Yamaha deny Marc Marquez of pole position.
Circuito de Jerez is a track more suited to the Ducati bikes, but Quartararo’s pace is off the charts. Yamaha is currently the only manufacturer on the grid that still uses an inline four-cylinder engine (L4), which falls short of the V4.
During the sprint, Yamaha will have to put up a great fight against the mighty V4 engines, which seem to run much smoother on the grippy track. Although Ducati have had a grip on MotoGP victories for the last year, Yamaha could pull one back this afternoon.

SMILES ALL AROUND FOR YAMAHA
It was smiles all around for the Yamaha MotoGP team as their star rider Fabio Quartararo scored a glorious pole position at the Grand Prix Spain. Quartararo had a blisteringly quick pace during qualifying and claimed a magnificent 1:35.610s lap time to secure pole ahead of Marc Marquez.
This feat marks both Quartararo’s and Yamaha’s first pole position in 1134 days, since the Grand Prix Indonesia in 2022. The team has faced many struggles since its last pole position, with this shocking pole coming out of the blue.
Yamaha team boss Massimo Meregalli said: "Yesterday we started thinking we could do a good race.
"Impossible to think about the pole position.
"Now, I need to get back that taste because it was a long time ago.
"But I’m really happy for everybody, because believe me, we really put in a lot of effort the last few years.
"And this is the best way to repay this job.
"Let’s see what the race will bring, but at least when you start from there the race is different."

MARTIN’S LAST DANCE?
In what could be the unluckiest streak in MotoGP, the reigning champion Jorge Martin finally made his return to the sport after an injury to suffer yet another injury. This time, more gruesome, Martin left the Grand Prix Qatar with 11 broken ribs and a pneumothorax.
He crashed at Turn 14 at the Lusail International Circuit and skidded along the track before taking a hit from Fabio Di Giannantonio. DiGi had little chance of avoiding Martin as he slid across the racing line.
Now, Martin not only has to recover from his broken ribs and collapsed lung but also the lingering pain from his wrist surgery earlier this year. Basking in the glory of his title win last year, Martin entered pre-season testing with a thirst for victory. Instead, he was met with injury after injury in perhaps his worst season yet.
By no fault of his own, Martin is likely to be out for the remainder of the season. The wrist injury was bad enough, proven in Qatar, as the high braking zones put a strain on his injury. The situation was worsened by his collapsed lung and 11 broken ribs, which, in an industry like motorsport, could end many careers.
Hopefully, Martin takes a route more similar to endurance racing driver Doriane Pin, who broke her ribs after an accident in Spa. She went on to make a full recovery and jump back into F1 Academy, where she engages in a fierce title fight.

PECCO POWER IN JEREZ
The conversation about Francesco Bagnaia’s performance this season has been constant. With Ducati Lenovo newcomer Marc Marquez stealing the show in every round, Bagnaia has been pushed to the back seat. While we are only heading into Round 5, Marquez is undoubtedly the rider to beat.
Luckily for Bagnaia, we are back in Jerez. The two-time world champion sits third in the list of all-time wins at Circuit de Jerez. Claiming three victories on the track, he looks for his fourth consecutive Grand Prix Spain win this weekend. In a similar fashion to last season, it seems like the Italian rider will have to fight Marquez for the win.
Bagnaia shared: "I have achieved a lot here in Jerez in the last three years and I am happy to return for the GP.
"We have always been very fast and we have achieved the maximum result in the last seasons."
This circuit has always preferred Bagnaia’s style. His riding style seems to blend perfectly with the precise corners of the grippy track. The sprint may be his chance to play to Ducati’s strengths and triumph over his teammate.

IS THERE A CIRCUIT MORE ICONIC THAN JEREZ?
Circuito de Jerez has an extremely rich racing history, with legendary riders soaking up glory under the Spanish sun. The track is situated in a serene valley in a southern sherry-making region. South of Seville, the remote circuit boasts prime racing conditions almost all year round. The weather is consistently sunny and warm for most of the year, making it a great race for a range of motorsports.
Spanish engineer Manuel Medina Lara was the mastermind behind this 13-corner track, which has been modified twice since its construction in 1985. Jerez was initially a 15-corner circuit before two corners were dropped in 1992. The layout has remained the same since 1994, with two alternative road circuits.
The motorcycle Grand Prix circuit is 4.424km with 13 corners and two long straights. Although it was resurfaced 20 years ago, the circuit is tricky for riders as it boasts a mixture of fast corners and direction changes. Riders must work very hard to maintain stability in the high-acceleration straights and hard braking zones.
This is set to be an incredibly special Grand Prix Spain as it marks the 40th anniversary of the Circuit de Jerez. MotoGP icon Valentino Rossi holds the record for the most motorcycle wins (7) on the track, topping Mick Doohan, who holds four.

Excitement as Quartararo ends Marc Marquez pole streak

THE PECKING ORDER
Fabio Quartararo put in a beautiful lap around Jerez to claim his first pole position since 2022. The shocking qualifying session saw the Yamaha rider battle it out with the championship leader Marc Marquez, edging the six-time world champion by 0.033s. Quartararo’s pole position ended Marquez’s 100% pole streak this season, bringing glimpses of hope for a different race winner this year.
However, there was some drama during qualifying, which could shake up the entire grid. At the beginning of qualifying, the Marquez brothers were under scrutiny for a pit-lane red light infringement. They ended up just getting a €2000 fine for the incident.
The starting grid is as follows:
1. Fabio Quartararo
2. Marc Marquez
3. Francesco Bagnaia
4. Alex Marquez
5. Franco Morbidelli
6. Maverick Vinales
7. Fermin Aldeguer
8. Fabio Di Giannantonio
9. Joan Mir
10. Johann Zarco
