MARC MARQUEZ EXTENDS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD AFTER THRILLING QATAR GP
Marc Marquez further tightened his grip on the MotoGP championship after an action-packed Qatar Grand Prix, overcoming early drama and a fierce late challenge to secure another remarkable victory.
Starting from pole, Marquez launched off the line with a strong start, but disaster struck early as he tangled with his brother, Alex Marquez, damaging the rear of his Ducati. The incident opened the door for Franco Morbidelli, who seized the opportunity to snatch the lead and immediately pulled out a half-second gap as Marc struggled with the aftermath.
Meanwhile, Alex Marquez's eventful night continued when he lost control into Turn 12 while fighting for third, making contact with Fabio Di Giannantonio. The clash sent Di Giannantonio tumbling down the order and dropped Alex to eighth, giving Pecco Bagnaia clear air to mount an attack on his team-mate.
Despite the early setback, Marc Marquez regrouped and clawed his way back to second with Bagnaia not far behind. But the real surprise came from Maverick Viñales. By lap 8, Viñales had overtaken Bagnaia and set his sights on Marquez.
With Morbidelli’s tyres beginning to degrade, Viñales closed in and snatched the lead on lap 11, stunning the front-runners. But the drama wasn’t over yet.
Marc Marquez conserved just enough life in his lyres to launch a late charge. A small mistake from Viñales at Turn 6 allowed Marquez to retake the lead and, once in front, he was untouchable. Setting blistering lap times, the Spaniard powered to another impressive win, extending his championship lead in emphatic fashion.
