BYE FOR NOW!

That's it for today - thank you for your company during the MotoGP Grand Prix of Qatar.

We'll be back in two weeks when the series heads on two Portugal. See you then!

18:05

BAGNAIA POST-RACE

"We work in silence. We knew our potential and tried to do the maximum yesterday, knowing that it was important to change something for today's race. And what we did this morning in the warm up was important.

"The race was absolutely, completely different, compared to yesterday. I tried to manage it in a different way and it worked, so I'm very happy. Now we move on to Portimao with another step forward with the new bike."

18:00

BINDER POST-RACE

"I'm super stoked with the result today. Today, we knew going in it was going to be tough to make the tyres go to the end. I'm surprised we managed it so well, to be honest.

"I tried to get so close to Pecco [Bagnaia] but he did an unreal job, didn't make one mistake the entire race and hats off to him.

"Thank you to my team; they did an amazing job, my bike was next level today compared to yesterday again."

17:55

MARTIN POST-RACE

"Today was a difficult race. I started quite well, but then straight away I was struggling to manage the tyre and Pecco [Bagnaia] was pushing a bit more at that point.

"The pace was really fast, really fast compared to last season. I was trying to control the rear grip, trying to manage for the end. And then when I saw Marc [Marquez] was coming and I was in a one-to-one battle, I tried to push a lot. He was pushing so much, but I was able to push and make a gap and almost try a move on Brad [Binder].

"But, finally, P3 and yesterday's win is a lot of points for the weekend, so I'm pleased and really looking forward to the next one."

21/21

BAGNAIA WINS IN QATAR

The defending champion controls his advantage well and takes victory in Qatar. Binder manages to hold Martin at bay and brings runner-up home.

21/21

BINDER RESPONDS

Binder might have been in settle for second mode, allowing Martin to close back in, but he responds to consolidate the position now.

20/21

MARTIN PULLS THE PIN

Martin has found an extra gear here as he quickly drops Marc Marquez behind him and closes in on Binder for second.

20/21

BASTIANINI ON THE MOVE

The factory Ducati rider has found some great late race pace and is up into fifth.

19/21

BAGNAIA IN CONTROL, THIRD WIDE OPEN

Bagnaia is in cruise control out front now with Binder looking unable to reel him back in.

Binder, in turn, has a good advantage over the riders behind him as well but it's very much game on between Martin and Marc Marquez for the final podium spot.

18/21

MARTIN IN MANAGEMENT MODE

Martin is braving Marc Marquez hunting him down and manages a gap of around four tenths for the moment.

16/21

GAPS OPEN AMONG TOP THREE

Gaps of around a second now separate Bagnaia from Binder, and Binder from his two chasers Martin and Marc Marquez. It's game on for third though.

Bagnaia is holding his advantage steady at around a second for now. Binder has taken back over as his first chaser with Martin and Acosta right behind. Marc Marquez is gradually losing touch.

WEATHER REPORT

We've had some rare wet sessions over the course of the Grand Prix, but there are no threats of rain for the race. At just over 20 degrees Celsius air temperature, we're looking at some ideal conditions to go racing.

TYRE NEWS

The tyre selections coming to the grid are in and medium/medium is the popular choice with almost everyone opting for that combination. The only exception is Takaaki Nakagami on soft/medium.

We're expecting a big tyre drop over the course of the 22 laps here, so management will be crucial.

WHAT'S NEW IN 2024 - TEAMS AND RIDERS

A number of riders are with new teams - many indeed with new manufacturers this season. Headlining is six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez who joined Gresini Racing and Ducati after 11 seasons with Honda. He replaces Fabio Di Giannantonio who moved on to the VR46 Racing Team, sticking with Ducati, in place of Luca Marini who, in turn, takes Marquez' place at Repsol Honda.

Elsewhere, Johann Zarco is back with Honda and the LCR Team in place of Alex Rins who is making a manufacturer swap to Monster Energy Yamaha. He's replacing Franco Morbidelli who is set to ride this season with Prima Pramac, taking over the Ducati from Zarco.

RNF Racing is not entering this season after breaching paticipation agreements. They're being replaced by Trackhouse Racing as Aprilia's new independent team, Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez staying on as riders.

Finally, only the one rookie this season, but it's a big one. Reigning Moto2 champion Pedro Acosta has made the step up to the premier class with Red Bull GasGas Tech3.

HELLO AND WELCOME

Good afternoon and welcome to our live text coverage of the Qatar MotoGP race.

Yesterday's Sprint kicked the new season off in style and now it's time for the first full race of the year. Jorge Martin starts from pole and chases the double, but a number of riders will have something to say about that, most prominently Aleix Espargaro who had by far the best form in the late stages of the Sprint.

Who will reign supreme under the desert lights? We're about to find out!
