Marc Marquez 'ready to fight' at Grand Prix Italy after recording 100th MotoGP pole position

Marc Marquez continued to dominate the 2025 MotoGP season with another pole position. This pole was something of a milestone, as the success in Mugello at Grand Prix Italy represents the 100th time that he has claimed top spot in qualifying. In second place behind him was his team-mate Francesco Bagnaia, overcoming some of his early-season struggles on the 2025 Ducati Lenovo.

Marc Marquez recorded his 100th career pole position with a lap record during qualifying for Grand Prix Italy on Saturday.
Early on in the day’s action, Tech3 KTM’s Maverick Vinales looked like the in-form rider, but ultimately it was the world championship leader who took advantage, gaining first spot for the day’s Sprint race and Sunday’s full-length event.
The Ducati rider’s time of 1:44.169s was the best ever on two wheels at Magello, but he was only 0.059 seconds ahead of his Lenovo team-mate, Francesco Bagnaia.
Alex Marquez, second in the standings behind his older brother, was also close in behind in third spot, 0.083s slower.
Fabio Quartararo’s impressive showings in qualifying sessions continued as he took second spot.
For Marquez, it is the 100th time he has claimed top spot in qualifying in MotoGP, and he was one of four riders who went quicker than the 2024 record set by Jorge Martin last season.

Speaking after the race, Marquez was pleased with his effort.
"Especially super-happy because it was a real pole position, it was without the slipstream, alone, and just trying to find my limits," he said.
"It was a good lap. Super-happy in a circuit where, historically, Pecco [Francesco Bagnaia] and Alex [Marquez] are faster than me – we were able to be on pole.
"Even in the free practice, the pace was not bad.
"But, be patient because in the afternoon with the warm temperatures can change everything. At the moment, we are there, and ready to fight for the Sprint and main race."
