Alex Marquez was injured at the Indian Grand Prix and missed the meet in Japan before attempting to return in Indonesia. However, after a fall during FP1 at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, his team have confirmed that he will miss the entire race weekend. It was confirmed earlier this week that Marquez’s older brother Marc will join the team for the 2024 season.

Marc Marquez pleased with decision to join Gresini Ducati - ‘I want to be the best again’

Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing has been ruled out of the Indonesian Grand Prix after a fall in Free Practice 1.
The younger Marquez brother missed the Japan Grand Prix having suffered multiple rib injuries in qualifying at the Indian Grand Prix.
He was attempting to make his comeback in Indonesia but he suffered a fall during FP1, where he rode 13 laps and was 20th fastest.
Now the team have confirmed that he will miss the rest of the weekend.
The team said that he was out “due to pain after trying his body conditions in FP1” in a tweet confirming the news.
It was a big week for the Marquez family with the news that older brother Marc was breaking his long-term ties with Honda and would link up with Alex at Ducati satellite Gresini for one year in 2024.
Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of the weekend, Marc said that the most important thing for him in 2024 was to enjoy racing again after a tough few years.
“I want to say that I want to be the best again in the world, but for that I need to enjoy it again on the track, and on the bike.
"It was a very tough decision, and was made last Tuesday after Japan.
"On Wednesday we had the phone call with Japanese staff and we decided by mutual agreement to separate our contracts, not for life, because I hope and I wish to meet again in the future.
“It was a very hard, emotional week, but right now we already announced it with Gresini.
"We signed the MOU [memorandum of understanding] this morning because we never go forward with another contract before speaking with Honda, but it was super hard for me.”
