JORGE MARTIN LEADS AN ALL-APRILIA PODIUM AFTER DOMINANT SILVERSTONE SPRINT VICTORY

It was a brilliant race at Silverstone for Aprilia, who earned their very first podium lockout at the British Grand Prix, with Jorge Martin at the helm.

The Spaniard claimed his third Sprint victory of the season with a truly dominant race, leading the pack from pole position to the finish line.

He has extended his lead atop the riders' standings, with today's runner-up, Ai Ogura, just 17 points behind him.

The Trackhouse rider finished ahead of Marco Bezzecchi, who powered through a string of underwhelming results before the summer break, and finished in third place.

It was an unfortunate race for Ducati, with Marc Marquez losing six places in the race, as well as dropping down to fourth in the standings.

MARTIN: 'TODAY WAS A DIFFICULT RACE'

The world champion has extended his lead in the riders' standings with a Sprint victory at Silverstone, leading from start to finish from pole position.

Martin said: "You know, we did a lot of work during the summer, and this is finally showing that all the work we did was worth it.

"So I'm really, really happy. Congrats to the Aprilia team.

"Congrats also to Marco because, after what he has suffered through with his injuries, it's crazy that he's on the podium again.

"Today was a difficult race. I tried to be as fast as possible, trying to manage the tyres in the end.

"I had no rear tyres, so I thought Ai would catch me, and finally I was able to manage the tyres.

"Another sprint victory is always amazing."

OGURA: 'THE START WAS GOOD'

Ai Ogura is enjoying a brilliant season so far, inching closer to Jorge Martin's lead in the riders' standings with a second-place finish during the Sprint race today.

Ogura said: "The start was good, but it was a tough one anyway. How the rear tyre dropped was unbelievable.

"I mean, I wasn't sure I could finish the race, so no. But still, we managed to finish.

"We managed to get second position, and we have a lot of work to do for tomorrow, so we will keep working."

BEZZECCHI: 'DIFFICULT TO SAY WHAT I'M FEELING'

The Italian rider has come back from a tough period of scoring no points in the last three races, as well as shattering his shoulder. He returned from the summer break with a P3 finish at the Silverstone Sprint race.

Bezzecchi said: "Yeah, it was a tough period, as you probably can imagine.

"So, it was very important to come back and enjoy the bike, and yeah, we did a very good job.

"It is difficult for me to say what I'm feeling right now, but I want to say just a massive thanks to the team and all the people that stayed close to me, and that worked hard with me."

MARTIN WINS THE SPRINT RACE AT SILVERSTONE

Leading from start to finish, Jorge Martin was the man to beat as he powered through to a Sprint victory at the British Grand Prix - his third Sprint win this season.

He finished ahead of fellow Aprilia riders Ai Ogura and Marco Bezzecchi in their first podium lockout at Silverstone, beating Ducati for the victory.

MARQUEZ STRUGGLING WHILE MARTIN COSY UP FRONT

Jorge Martin has had a brilliant weekend so far in Silverstone, leading the Sprint race with ease. The Aprilia rider has been lapping 0.2s faster than Ai Ogura behind.

On Lap 6, Alex Marquez slipped past his brother for fifth place as Marc Marquez seemed to be struggling with his factory Ducati. This could be a result of very light contact he had in the opening lap, or it could just not be his day. Marquez was almost two seconds slower than Martin on Lap 7, who was up front in the lead.

Meanwhile, the Aprilia riders began to pick up pace and Marco Bezzecchi seemed to be flying around the circuit. On Lap 7, Bezzecchi found himself right behind Fabio Di Giannantonio, and shot past him around Maggotts and Becketts to climb up to third place.

Lap 8 saw Marc Marquez almost lose another place to Pedro Acosta, and it was clear that he was struggling with the bike. Ducati will have a lot of work to do ahead of the Grand Prix tomorrow, as Marc Marquez will be hoping to pick up more points in the fight for the championship.

Acosta finally pulled off the move as Marc Marquez genuinely found himself unable to turn through the corners. He was then overtaken by Joan Mir in what could be his worst result at Silverstone in years.

FERNANDEZ CRASHES OUT WHILE BEZ JUMPS MARQUEZ

A fight was brewing for a place on the podium with the Ducati riders far closer to the Aprilia leaders than expected, with Marc Marquez running ahead of Marco Bezzecchi on Lap 4. The same could be said for Alex Marquez, who has held onto the back of Bezzecchi with ease, and could potentially snatch the position in the closing stages of the Sprint

Raul Fernandez had an unfortunate race, crashing at Turn 4 on Lap 4, but was able to rejoin the race. He was looking for a way around Bezzecchi but ran too wide and slid into the gravel. Bezzecchi then pulled off a stunning overtake on Marc Marquez around Copse on Lap 5, slotting into fourth place again.

APRILIA VS DUCATI SCRAP AGAIN

The start of the second lap saw Ai Ogura in second place, defending from Fabio Di Giannantonio in third. The V46 rider stormed past his teammate on the opening lap and had Marc Marquez to deal with behind. However, DiGi looked to sneak around the Japanese rider ahead of the Wellington straight, but Ogura hung onto the position.

Marc Marquez looked to make up time on the second sector, almost coming into contact with Marco Bezzechi, but they both managed to keep it on track. As it stands, Marquez is running in fourth place, having overtaken Bezzecchi for the position.

Raul Fernandez has fallen to sixth place after a hectic opening lap, slotting in ahead of Alex Marquez. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin looked incredibly comfortable at the front of the pack and managed to set the fastest lap on Lap 2.

MARTIN CHECKING OUT IN THE FRONT

The polesitter Jorge Martin got off to a brilliant start compared to Raul Fernandez, who dropped behind Ai Ogura into the first turn. Fabio Di Giannantonio flew around the first sector, defending hard from Marc Marquez as the duo looked to find a way around the Aprilias.

As predicted, the Aprilia bikes are performing brilliantly already in what was expected to be a clean sweep for the factory team.

The start of the Sprint race has been delayed by five minutes, and racing will get underway at 16:05. The riders are lined up on the grid and are ready for a thrilling race around Silverstone in the beaming sunshine.

CAN MARQUEZ CLIMB BACK UP THE RANKS?

As it stands, Jorge Martin leads the Riders' Standings ahead of Ai Ogura by roughly 14 points, while Marc Marquez sits in third place. With the Ducati rider qualifying down in sixth place ahead of his brother, it could be tricky to make up some lost points from earlier in the year. Marquez, however, has claimed three wins so far this year and won the last race - so he definitely cannot be counted out.

Silverstone is the perfect track for Aprilia, with the bike doing brilliantly on the long straights and the high-speed turns. This could be a defining race for Martin, who could add points to his tally and potentially claim the title later down the line. Even one race win could make all the difference if it comes down to a final race decider.

LECUONA REPLACES ALDEGUER AT GRESINI

This is the second rider to be replaced this weekend for the British Grand Prix, with Fermin Aldeguer out with an injury. Aldeguer has been missing since the Dutch Grand Prix, having fractured his T7 vertebra in Assen.

Iker Lecuona will be making his second appearance in MotoGP, with his first outing at Balaton Park seeing him claim a place in the top ten. The Spaniard managed to qualify in tenth place today, hoping to claim another top-ten spot.

ESPARGARO FILLS IN FOR VINALES AT THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX

Maverick Vinales will also miss out on the British Grand Prix due to his injuries. He has been battling a shoulder injury all season, with a new tear being discovered during the summer break.

Team boss Gunther Steiner said: ”Obviously, this situation came out; nobody picked it - not even him, we have to be fair.

”The underlying thing is there is a health issue with his shoulder. I don’t know the exact details; I’m not a doctor.

”For me, the most important thing is he gets healthy for his own sake.

”Whether you ride a motorbike or not, you need to fix your body first, and then we see.”

MOTOGP EXTENDS BRITISH GRAND PRIX TO 2028

Great news for racing fans - the British Grand Prix will remain on the MotoGP World Championship calendar until at least 2028. Silverstone is one of the most celebrated tracks on the calendar and is renowned for its twisting corners and wide straights.

It has been a staple on the calendar since 2010, when it returned after a 24-year absence. The British Grand Prix was once held at Donington Park, but Silverstone has a unique energy and history unmatched by any other venue.

BRITISH GLORY: SILVERSTONE CIRCUIT

Silverstone is one of the most iconic circuits in motorsport, no matter how many wheels are on the track. MotoGP races on the full 5.9km track with 10 right-handers and eight left-handers. Situated in the ‘motorsport valley’ in the UK Midlands, fans can expect rainy and breezy conditions for most of the year. However, the UK has been suffering through heatwaves, so there will be sunshine across the entire weekend.

The circuit opened the Formula 1 championship in 1950 after being converted from a runway to a race track. Silverstone has been modified over time, with the most notable changes in 1991 and 1994 after tragedies necessitated the demand for new ‘slowing’ chicanes at Woodcote. Despite the modifications, Silverstone is still one of the fastest circuits in motorsport.

Historic features like Maggots, Becketts and Abbey bring challenges to riders with intense high-speed corners leading into long straights. Silverstone offers many overtaking opportunities along the Hangar and Wellington Straights, as well as a tricky hairpin at Vale that forces riders to master their bikes’ balance and grip.
