FERNANDEZ LEADS ANOTHER APRILIA LOCKOUT ON PODIUM AFTER DOMINANT SILVERSTONE WIN

Raul Fernandez powered through the British Grand Prix to claim his second MotoGP victory, after jumping the polesitter, Jorge Martin, on the opening lap.

It was still a great race for Martin, despite settling for second place, as he extended his lead in the riders’ standings and is beginning to build a real title charge.

His teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, brought it home in third place and secured a double podium in Silverstone after a tough summer break recovering from his shoulder injury.

The trio earned Aprilia their second podium lockout at the venue, inching them further ahead of Ducati in both the teams' and manufacturers' standings.

Martin is now 30 points clear of Bezzecchi in the standings, after Ai Ogura crashed out of the race and lost P2 to the factory Aprilia rider.

It was also a disappointing weekend for Marc Marquez, who dropped to fourth in the standings after finishing in seventh today and ninth yesterday - although we are heading to his strongest track, Aragon, in the next round.

FERNANDEZ: 'IT IS PART OF THE SPORT'

Raul Fernandez scored his second victory in the premier class today with a dominant race around Silverstone, jumping the polesitter on the first lap and leading for the remainder.

Fernandez said: "For sure, I'm really happy. I don't really know what I feel right now.

"Yes, I am really happy because Justin Marks [Trackhouse Racing owner] is here, and the most glorious moment when I was in this kind of position was in Valencia. I was fighting with Marco for the victory, but Justin missed that moment. So right now, Justin can enjoy the moment with us.

"So I'm really happy for the team. For Justin, I think together we had a really good weekend.

"It's true that yesterday I was quite frustrated after my mistake. But anyway, it is part of the sport.

"Sometimes we are human and can make this kind of mistake. And now, now we are getting there again. So thanks to my team."

MARTIN: 'REALLY HAPPY FOR APRILIA'

The championship leader managed to extend his lead in the riders' standings with a second-place finish at the British Grand Prix.

Martin said: "Really happy for myself. This gives us, for sure, a big boost of confidence towards the end of the season.

"It seems like we found a bit of the way or the direction to take from the moment, and yeah, today the race was fantastic.

"I made a small mistake at the start. I had the ride device activated, so all the riders were overtaking me.

"I was able to fight back, and yeah, I think I lost the victory there, but anyway, I put my pace up at the end, trying to or hoping that Raúl was dropping a bit, but he was impressive.

"So, congrats to Aprilia, congrats to the people that are always helping me, and yeah, let's go, let's move forward like this. We are really, really happy."

BEZZECCHI: 'DIFFICULT TO SPEAK'

Marco Bezzecchi had a brilliant weekend at Silverstone after returning from the summer break with a fresh shoulder plate after suffering two injuries this season, securing a double podium at the British Grand Prix.

Bezzecchi said: "It's difficult to speak, but yeah, I'm very, very happy. Thanks to everyone."

BATTLE FOR THIRD ENDURED BY ALEX AND BEZ

Marco Bezzecchi managed to hold off Alex Marquez on Lap 15, likely in excruciating pain from his shoulder injury, but looked strong enough to score his second podium of the weekend. The battle for third was alive, with Alex just 0.5s behind the Aprilia. Alex trailed closely behind Bezzecchi on the Hangar straight, hoping to repeat his overtake from earlier in the race. He could not pull off the move, however, and continued the fight onto Lap 16.

The lead was still being held by Raul Fernandez, who had no signs of slowing down. The last few laps could be a fight to the end, but not between riders, and instead a rider and his bike. The tyres are practically disintegrating as the race nears an end, and the rear tyres especially would be incredibly worn out in this heat.

Behind was Pedro Acosta and Marc Marquez running in fifth and sixth place, ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio and Brad Binder. On Lap 17, Di Giannantonio managed to slip past Marc Marquez after the factory Ducati rider had a slight wobble heading into the corner.

Somehow, Bezzecchi found an extra edge on Alex, setting his personal best lap on Lap 17, heading into Lap 18 on a mission to retain his position on the podium. Both riders were on the absolute limit, but it could be an all-Aprilia podium again if Alex can't pull off the overtake.

FERNANDEZ COMFORTABLE IN THE LEAD

There was a fierce battle for a position on the podium, with Alex Marquez performing brilliantly as the only Ducati on track with better pace than the Aprilia. Pedro Acosta has done well to hold off the Gresini rider up until Lap 12, with Alex finally pulling off a move around the inside of the KTM through Vale.

Acosta tried to take the place back in the final sector, and built up more speed heading into Turn 1 on Lap 13, but Alex was able to defend hard and retain his position in fourth place. Marquez then set his sights on Marco Bezzecchi ahead, as the rider has been struggling with a shoulder injury all season.

On Lap 14, the gap between Marquez and Bezzecchi was 1.2s, but the Ducati was the much quicker rider. At the front of the pack, the gap was 4.1s as Raul Fernandez cruised through the track in the lead. Jorge Martin was sitting in second place, hoping his teammate would not pick up the pace.

OGURA CRASHES OUT WHILE MARQUEZ MAKES MOVE ON APRILIA

By Lap 9, Alex Marquez was the fastest man on track after the race-leader Raul Fernandez. It could be a potential podium for the Gresini rider, who was making up an incredible amount of time compared to the riders in front.

Jorge Martin managed to close down the gap to Marco Bezzecchi, cutting the gap to less than 0.5s as he looked to launch an attack for second place. The world champion snatched the place from his teammate, and left him vulnerable to Marquez, who stole third place from Bezzecchi. It was very brief, however, as Alex Marquez slipped behind him again after running wide at Turn 1 on Lap 10, allowing Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta to sweep past.

Ai Ogura unfortunately crashed at Turn 16 on Lap 10 while chasing down Marc Marquez, and slid out of the race for the very first time in a race this season. During this chaos, Alex looked to force his way around Acosta again on Lap 11, trailing behind him through Copse and the winding Silverstone corners.

He came excruciatingly close on the Hangar straight and gained more speed around Vale, but Acosta shut the door on him each time.

MARC MARQUEZ TUMBLING DOWN WITH STRUGGLING DUCATI

The battle for fourth place was alive between the Marquez duo, with Alex squeezing past his brother for fourth place on Lap 6. Marc was then put under pressure from Pedro Acosta on Lap 7, having struggled with the Ducati all weekend.

Acosta pulled off a clean and tight overtake on Marc around the inside of Abbey, a risky but crucial move to secure points for KTM. At the front of the pack, the gap grew to around 3.6 seconds as Raul Fernandez stormed around Silverstone.

Cal Crutchlow crashed out of the race at Turn 6 on Lap 7, putting an end to his brief appearance in MotoGP. A fair few of the riders at this point had crashed out, including Joan Mir, Francesco Bagnaia, and Enea Bastianini. It could be that the conditions were nearing the extreme, with Silverstone rarely being this hot and dry.

This race will be about tyre management towards the end, and you never know who will come out on top.

ACOSTA AND MARQUEZ SCRAP IT OUT FOR P5

This could be another clean sweep for Aprilia with the Ducati riders struggling with grip in the unusual Silverstone heat. The track temperature passed 45 degrees Celsius before the race even began, and will be blisteringly hot by the end.

On Lap 4, Raul Fernandez led the pack with ease and created a 2.7s gap to Marco Bezzecchi right behind. The Trackhouse rider unfortunately crashed out of the Sprint yesterday and will be hoping to regain the points lost. Behind was Jorge Martin, who lost the lead on Lap 1, defending hard from Marc Marquez, who was trailing just 0.3s behind.

Chaos unfolded behind between Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez, with Acosta desperately trying to overtake the Gresini rider. Marquez had great pace compared to the riders ahead, but Acosta was inching closer and closer to his bike by the end of Lap 5.

On Lap 6, Alex was right behind his brother Marc, who was the fastest Ducati on track. Meanwhile, Enea Bastianini slid out of 15th place and retired from the race.

PACE IS PICKING UP BEHIND WITH FACTORY APRILIA CLOSE BEHIND FERNANDEZ

It is set to be a long and chaotic race with riders scrapping it out across the track, with Pedro Acosta launching an attack on Franco Morbidelli for eighth place on Lap 2. The duo were stalling behind Ai Ogura, who looked to be struggling compared to yesterday.

At the front of the pack, Raul Fernandez looked comfortable in the lead ahead of the factory Aprilia duo of Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin. The pace is incredible at this stage of the race, with Raul Fernandez putting in the fastest lap of the race while building a two-second gap.

FERNANDEZ JUMPS MARTIN FOR THE LEAD

Our polesitter Jorge Martin got off to a blisteringly fast start, launching off the line before running wide around the first corner.

The Trackhouse duo qualified in second and third place, but Raul Fernandez was incredibly fast on the start and managed to usurp the lead from Martin around the first corner, with his teammate dropping down to fifth place on the first lap.

Ducati were on the back foot of Aprilia yesterday, but Marc Marquez found himself in third place by the end of the first lap after scrapping it out with Marco Bezzecchi. However, Marquez was unable to hold onto the place when Martin stormed back up the field, looking for a way around the Ducati.

MOTOGP EXTENDS BRITISH GRAND PRIX TO 2028

Great news for racing fans - the British Grand Prix will remain on the MotoGP World Championship calendar until at least 2028. Silverstone is one of the most celebrated tracks on the calendar and is renowned for its twisting corners and wide straights.

It has been a staple on the calendar since 2010, when it returned after a 24-year absence. The British Grand Prix was once held at Donington Park, but we are all in agreement that Silverstone is clear.

APRILIA VS DUCATI: WHO WILL COME OUT ON TOP?

The favourites coming into this weekend were Aprilia, and the Sprint race yesterday proved the theories right. Aprilia completely dominated the race from start to finish, with Jorge Martin starting on pole position for the factory team. The team went on to score their very first lockout on the podium at the venue.

Initially, it looked like Ducati was the stronger bike as the Marquez brothers were catching up with the Aprilia riders. However, as the Sprint went on, their performance completely dropped off. Marc Marquez suffered from damage and tumbled down the order.

BRITISH GLORY: SILVERSTONE CIRCUIT

Silverstone is one of the most iconic circuits in all of motorsport, no matter how many wheels are on track. MotoGP races on the full 5.9km track with 10 right-handers and eight left-handers. Situated in the ‘motorsport valley’ in the UK Midlands, fans can expect rainy and breezy conditions for most of the year.

The circuit opened the Formula 1 championship in 1950 after being converted from a runway to a race track. Silverstone has been modified over time, with the most notable changes in 1991 and 1994 after tragedies necessitated the demand for new ‘slowing’ chicanes at Woodcote. Despite the modifications, Silverstone is still one of the fastest circuits in motorsport.

Historic features like Maggots, Becketts and Abbey bring challenges to riders with intense high-speed corners leading into long straights. Silverstone offers many overtaking opportunities along the Hangar and Wellington Straights, as well as a tricky hairpin at Vale that forces riders to master their bikes’ balance and grip.

HOW WAS THE SPRINT YESTERDAY?

It was a brilliant race at Silverstone for Aprilia, who earned their very first podium lockout at the British Grand Prix, with Jorge Martin at the helm.

The Spaniard claimed his third Sprint victory of the season with a truly dominant race, leading the pack from pole position to the finish line.

He has extended his lead atop the riders' standings, with today's runner-up, Ai Ogura, just 17 points behind him.

The Trackhouse rider finished ahead of Marco Bezzecchi, who powered through a string of underwhelming results before the summer break, and finished in third place.

It was an unfortunate race for Ducati, with Marc Marquez losing six places in the race, as well as dropping down to fourth in the standings.
