ALEX MARQUEZ WINS SILVERSTONE SPRINT TO EDGE OUT BROTHER MARC

Alex Marquez claimed a dramatic victory at the Silverstone Sprint, edging out his older brother Marc Marquez in a thrilling battle.

Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo started from pole for the third consecutive time, having set a new lap record in morning qualifying. He led into Turn 1, but Marc Marquez, launching from fourth on the grid, quickly slotted into second.

Wasting no time, the six-time world champion passed Francesco Bagnaia and then seized the lead from Quartararo at Turn 15 by the end of the opening lap. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez had climbed into second.

Disaster struck Marc on Lap 2 when he ran wide at Turn 3, the same corner that had caught him out during practice. That small mistake allowed Alex to pounce and snatch the lead.

Marc tried to reel his brother back in as the race unfolded, but in the final two laps, Alex pulled clear. The BK8 Gresini rider held firm to secure a well-earned win, while Marc settled for second place.

Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the podium in third, with Marco Bezzecchi charging from 11th on the grid to finish fourth for Aprilia. Johann Zarco edged out Bagnaia for fifth, while pole-sitter Quartararo slipped down the order to finish a disappointing seventh.

ALEX MARQUEZ: 'WE DID EVERYTHING PERFECTLY'

Alex Marquez reflects on his Silverstone Sprint win.

He said: "Super happy. We did everything perfectly. We made a mistake at the start.

"When he went wide, I said ok. I need to go to the end. It was a good feeling on the bike. It was too short, I felt good.
"Tomorrow is the most important day though, so we need to focus."

Jack Miller (Pramac Yamaha) starts 6th on the grid and spoke to TNT Sport ahead of the race.

"Let's what we can do off the start," said Miller. "Pace has been good. The sprint race is always a special one. See what we can do on the sifts [tyres]."

"Lets also see what the weather does out there today. It's a bit gusty...so let's see what happens."
