MARQUEZ UNCHALLENGED AS DUCATI ACE CRUISES TO SPRINT VICTORY
Marc Marquez continued his dominant form at the Sachsenring as he claimed a straightforward victory in a largely uneventful Tissot Sprint at Grand Prix Germany.
Marquez started from pole position and was never headed, leading from lights to flag in one of the easier afternoons of his career to claim the Sprint victory ahead of his brother Alex, and VR46 rider Fabio Di Giannantonio in third.
"Diggia" produced the one moment of real racing excitement on the opening lap as the sixth-placed qualifier managed to get the jump on both of the Trackhouse Aprilias of Raul Fernandes and Ai Ogura to establish himself in third place. And while Ogura briefly looked to threaten the leading trio after registering a couple of fastest laps through the middle point of the race, that challenge never materialised.
It left Di Giannantonio free to push hard in the closing laps, but despite his best efforts, he was not able to challenge Alex Marquez for second as he ran out of laps.
Alex, meanwhile, pushed his brother hard through the middle of the race, but was not able to maintain his pressure as he eventually ceded to his world champion sibling.
Further down the order, championship leader Jorge Martin made up a couple of places from his lowly starting position to finish sixth.

MARQUEZ LOOKING FORWARD TO MEDIUM RACE TYRE AFTER TRICKY SPRINT WIN
Marc Marquez may have led from lights to flag in the Tissot Sprint at Sachsenring, but he admitted that the margin of his victory over his brother Alex was cause for a little concern.
"Alex was pushing quite hard," he explained.
"I saw that he always was very close, even in the last laps, and yeah, I just tried to keep a constant pace. But even like this, he was able to even catch me in the last lap."
Marquez then turned his attention to Sunday's full-length Grand Prix race, where the medium compound tyre will come into effect. The world champion said he was hopeful that the change in race rubber might make his life a little more comfortable in tomorrow's race.
"Let's see for tomorrow with the medium tire (if) we can manage (the race) in a better way, but with the same result!"

ALEX MARQUEZ ENGAGED 'SAFETY MODE' TO SECURE SECOND-PLACE FINISH
For a while it looked like Alex Marquez might be able to mount a serious challenge to his brother Marc for the Sprint race win, but in the end the Gresini Ducati man had to settle for second place at the Sachsenring.
"Yeah, I tried!" he said after his second-place finish.
"I tried my best, every lap, every corner. I was trying just to survive, because it was quite a slippery front (and) rear. But anyway, I did my best race that was possible today."
Marquez, who was involved in a massive crash two months ago at Catalunya, is still building back full fitness, and admitted he wasn't able to push at 100 percent for every lap of the 15-lap Sprint, as he explained how he had to ride smartly and safely to ensure he got the second place finish.
"I need still to be there in safety mode a little bit, and I try not in a proper way, because I'm a little bit too stiff. But the race was a really good race, a second (place) ... so I'm happy."

DI GIANNANTONIO HAPPY EARLY PASS EARNED HIM PODIUM FINISH
Fabio Di Giannantonio's aggressive racing in the opening few corners ensured he came home with a third-place finish in the Tissot Sprint at Sachsenring.
Chatting in pit lane after the race, the VR46 rider said he was pleased that he was able to get past both Trackhouse Aprilias on the opening lap to earn himself a podium finish.
"Today the goal was to achieve the podium, and then, for sure, taking as many points as possible ... every point counts," he said.
"I had to do the move on Ai (Ogura) at the beginning because I knew that they had a little more pace, and maybe at the end I was a little faster than Alex (Marquez). But here it's super difficult to find clean air and then overtake, so it was too much risk on the last two laps. So, third is more than perfect. I'm happy."

MARC MARQUEZ LEADS A FAMILY 1-2 FINISH AT SACHSENRING!
That was like a nice, easy weekend ride for Marc Marquez, who absolutely cruised to victory in an incident-free Sprint at the Sachsenring.
The race needed someone to push the limits and force a pass, but unfortunately, it didn't really pan out that way, with Alex Marquez settling for second, while Fabio Di Giannantonio leaving his late charge a little too late to challenge for second.

MARQUEZ HOLDING STEADY
Alex Marquez may be breathing down his brother neck, but it doesn't look like he's got it in him to catch and pass Marc Marquez out front.
That's not to say Alex won't be in a late-race scrap, however. Fabio Di Giannantonio is right on his tail, and looking racy. He can smell a second place here, and a last-lap lunge might be on the cards...

ALEX CLOSES THE GAP
We're not sure if it's Alex Marquez turning up the wick, or a mistake from his brother out front, but the leading pair are MUCH closer together.
Could Alex mount a late challenge with four laps to go?

MARQUEZ TURNS THE SCREW
We're into the final third of the race, and Marc Marquez is starting to turn up the pace.
The factory Ducati man has extended a little gap to his brother Alex in second, while Di Giannantonio is a little further back in third.
The expected challenge from Ai Ogura seems to have fallen away a little. He hasn't made any further headway in fourth.

DAMAGE LIMITATION FOR MARTIN
Jorge Martin is leading the world championship, and he's not likely to win today's Sprint, so maximising his points haul is key.
He's currently trying to hold off the hard-charging Francesco Bagnaia in order to cling on to sixth place.

MORBIDELLI CRASHES OUT
He was trying to fight back after a three-place grid penalty, and it seems Franco Morbidelli pushed just a tad too hard.
He's crashed out at Turn 1, and his Sprint is over.

CAN OGURA TURN PACE INTO PASSES?
Ai Ogura is the fastest man at the Sachsenring right now, and it might only be another lap or two before he's in touch with the leading trio.
The big question will be whether he can force his way past the men ahead of him. This circuit is notoriously difficult to pass on, but that's the challenge ahead of the Japanese rider if he wants a podium finish here.
5/15
IT'S CLOSE AT THE FRONT
Alex Marquez is all over the back of his brother, and looks ready to challenge for the lead, while Di Giannantonio is perfectly poised to take advantage of any slip-ups from the Marquez boys in front of him.
Meanwhile, Ogura is closing in on the leading trio. He's currently the fastest man on track.
4/15
CAN THE APRILIAS CHALLENGE?
The two Trackhouse Aprilias of Ogura and Fernandes are looking solid in fourth and fifth, while Jorge Martin has made a superb start and is already up to sixth. The three Aprilias are line-astern as they look to make up ground on the three Ducatis out front.

MARQUEZ VS MARQUEZ OUT FRONT
Does Alex Marquez have the pace, and the aggression, to give his brother a real fight? We could be about to find out.
Alex is hanging on to the back of his brother's Ducati, and his Gresini machine looks in fine fettle early on.
We know Marc takes a few laps to warm up and hit max speed, so if there's a time to get past him, it's now.

IT'S GO AT SACHSENRING!
Marc Marquez gets an absolutely superb start and heads into Turn 1 first. His brother Alex is in second. Di Giannantonio has passed the two Trackhouse Aprilias to move up to third.
They're all safely through the first few corners, with no incidents.
