MAGNIFICENT MARQUEZ SURGES BACK INTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE

Marc Marquez took full advantage of Marco Bezzecchi's enforced absence to claw back maximum points and move to within 40 points of the championship leader with victory at Grand Prix Czechia in Brno.

Marquez battled his way to the front and held off a late charge from polesitter Ai Ogura as the reigning world champion claimed back-to-back Grand Prix wins following his victory last weekend in Hungary.

And with Bezzecchi forced to sit out the Grand Prix race after being penalised for his Sprint race altercation with a marshal, Marquez claimed maximum points from the feature race to put himself right back in the mix for the 2026 championship.

Pole position man Ogura got off to a flying start and led the field into Turn 1, but it did not take long for the Ducati duo of Francesco Bagnaia and Marquez to fight through to take charge of the race. Marquez gradually reeled in his teammate and, on Lap 16, dived up the inside at Turn 4 to take the lead before pulling clear.

Ogura made a late surge to pass Bagnaia and close up on Marquez, but was not able to bridge the gap to challenge for the lead as he finished just behind the Spaniard, in second. Bagnaia, meanwhile, held off a hard-charging Fabio Di Giannantonio to finish third.

But the race was all about one man, as Marquez continued his remarkable comeback from shoulder surgery with another race win to put himself right back into championship contention ahead of Round 10 in Assen, Netherlands next weekend.

MARQUEZ ADMITS HE'S BACK IN THE TITLE FIGHT: 'WE ARE THERE'

With championship leader Marco Bezzecchi out of the event, Marc Marquez had the chance to make major inroads into the Aprilia man's championship lead, and his win reduced the gap to just 40 points.

Chatting to TNT Sports' Natalie Quirk after his victory in Brno, he admitted that, after previously thinking he was out of the championship fight, he's now well and truly back in the mix.

"Now I cannot say that I'm over," he said.

"I mean, (I am) 40 points behind, and we (haven't reached) the middle of the championship, so we are there. I cannot lie now. I cannot say another thing.

"It's true that when you are 103 points behind, I think, or more than 100 points, we were over, but now looks like ... we came back.

"We need to survive in a good way (in) Holland, Assen, because even it's a circuit that, even when I'm fit, I'm struggling a lot there. This year we need to survive there, and then try to continue our championship."

OGURA HAPPY FOR HIS TEAM AFTER STRONG WEEKEND

He wasn't quite able to claim victory at Brno, but two strong performances in the Sprint and the Grand Prix race gave the Japanese rider and his Trackhouse team cause for celebration in Czechia.

Chatting in pit lane after finishing second in the Grand Prix, Ogura said, "First of all, I'm happy for my guys, and well, it was a really tough one.

"I think I got a good pace towards the end, but (Marc Marquez) had something more, so we'll keep trying.

"But overall, the quality of the weekend was a lot better than the other races, so we can be happy about the start, and it's time to celebrate."

BAGNAIA CONTENT WITH THIRD, DESPITE HANDLING PROBLEMS

Handling issues persisted for Francesco Bagnaia, who reported that his bike had been tweaked to address the issues he encountered in the Sprint, only to create a different challenge for him in the Grand Prix.

Given the challenges, the Italian seemed pretty happy with his third-place finish.

"I was quite comfortable when I was leading, but I was thinking that the pace wasn't enough, because I was missing two, three tenths," he said.

"I tried everything, and we improved the vibration compared with yesterday. But I started having more floating, so maybe I prefer vibration to floating!

"As soon as Mark and Ai overtook me, I was struggling a lot to follow them. For a front (tyre) pressure, I needed to slow down a bit. And then the last three laps, I tried to be back on my pace to try to control a bit Diggia, who was arriving very fast.

"But in any case, happy another step (forward) done, and we just need to continue like this."

MORE FRUSTRATION FOR ACOSTA

Pedro Acosta was set for a solid points finish before his bike suffered technical issues once again and ruled him out of the race.

It's the second time in the last four rounds that he's been beset by technical issues, after suffering similar problems in Catalunya earlier this summer.

With Marco Bezzecchi scoring zero points this weekend, Marquez's win today, plus his third in yesterday's Sprint, means he's clawed back a big chunk of his championship deficit. Marquez is pushing hard out front, but the Aprilia man is still closing in.

It looks like he might run out of laps, but you can bet he'll push as hard as possible to snatch the victory away from Marquez and give his team a memorable pole position-race win double.

Both Marquez and Ogura are absolutely on the limit as they race for the victory here at Brno.

Ogura has shaved off two tenths from Marquez's lead and is now 0.6 behind. There's only three laps to go, and catching Marquez alone won't be enough – he'll have to fight his way past, too.

Ai Ogura puts in two outstanding laps to make up the ground on Bagnaia before he makes the pass on the Italian.

Now it's game on. Can Ogura make up the 0.8-second gap to Marquez out front? He's a master of saving his tyres, but has he saved enough to reel in the world champion?

Marc Marquez has probably had notice of Ogura's red-hot pace behind him. He's turned up the pace again and is all over the back of Bagnaia's bike, courtesy of the fastest lap of the race.

He looks ready to make a real run at his teammate here.

THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM?

Marc Marquez appears to have backed off just a little, presumably to prevent his front tyre from overheating from being too close to his teammate. It looks like he's biding his time before making a concerted run at the lead in the closing laps.

Bagnaia, meanwhile, continues to push the pace out front, while Ogura continues to be even faster, in third.

This is bubbling up nicely with eight laps to go.

YOU CAN'T SEPARATE THEM!

Both Bagnaia and Marquez registered exactly the same lap time, right down the thousandth of a second, on Lap 11 as both riders push to the limit for supremacy at the front.

Not too far behind, Ai Ogura has put the hammer down and is now less than a second behind the leader. The Japanese racer is absolutely flying, and going faster than both of the front two.

The front two is about to become a front three.

MARQUEZ CATCHES BAGNAIA

Pecco Bagnaia's lead out front is less than two tenths of a second, with Marc Marquez right in the Italian's wheeltracks.

Neil Hodgson on commentary has suggested that Marquez wouldn't want to get quite so close unless he plans on getting past his teammate as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, the fastest man on the track is making up ground on the leading two. That's right, it's Ai Ogura.

And, just like that, Marquez bangs in an even quicker lap to set a new fastest lap and draw himself to within half a second of Bagnaia once again.

Get ready. We're edging towards a Ducati-versus-Ducati scrap at the front.

Bagnaia saw Marquez closing in and has just set the fastest lap of the race.

Meanwhile, Ogura, Acosta and Di Giannantonio might be just a little bit closer to Marquez. The Japanese ace has just turned his personal best lap of the race so far.
