Jorge Martin: MotoGP leader hints at aggressive approach for title-deciding Barcelona finale - 'I will go for it'

Jorge Martin needs to finish in the top nine in Sunday's Barcelona Grand Prix to be sure of winning the 2024 MotoGP world championship, after rival Francesco Bagnaia triumphed in the Sprint race on Saturday in Catalonia. The Spaniard said he would be ready to attack in the final action of the season, after declaring himself content with his third-placed finish in the Sprint.

Jorge Martin says he “will go for it” in Sunday’s Barcelona Grand Prix as he battles Francesco Bagnaia for the MotoGP world title.
Bagnaia, the current world champion, finished top of the pile for a rare 2024 Sprint win. Championship leader Martin dropped in behind in second for much of the match, but was ultimately pushed down into third spot by Enea Bastianini.
Bagnaia now trails his rival by 19 points, meaning Martin needs a top-nine finish to be sure of the title, regardless of what the Italian is able to produce.
If Martin fails to finish, then Bagnaia needs to be first or second to retain his crown.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Martin said that he was content with his performance, but would "go for it" despite needing only a solid result on Sunday to win the championship for the first time in his career.
"I feel good," Martin said. "Thanks to the nice show from Enea, because it was an amazing fight.

"Today it was an important thing to race as normal, so I did that, and I attacked, and I did my best.
"Today I maybe missed the front tyre choice, maybe hard was better, but tomorrow will be another story and, anyway, [we got] a podium."
Some riders might be tempted to play it safe on Sunday, but there are risks to staying within the pack, given the increased chance of contact with other bikes.
Martin added that he would be looking to race aggressively once more.
He continued: "I'm super happy, it was the target and tomorrow I think the target is quite similar, and I will go for it.
"I think we are going in a good way, so let's try to get the big win tomorrow."
