MARQUEZ EDGES CLOSER TO CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY WITH SIXTH CONSECUTIVE WIN IN AUSTRIA
Marc Marquez stormed to victory for the first time around the Red Bull Ring, claiming his sixth consecutive Grand Prix win since his record-breaking 2014 season.
Marquez managed to overtake the polesitter, Marco Bezzecchi, in the final act of the race and cruise to victory in the 1000th MotoGP race in the class' history.
20-year-old rookie, Fermin Aldeguer, scored a second-place finish for Gresini and dedicated his best-ever finish to Spanish riders Borja Gomez and Pau Alsina who recently passed in motorcycle accidents.
Aldeguer shot up from sixth to second after pulling off some risky overtakes, scoring some crucial points for Gresini in his 13th race in the premier class.
The polesitter, Bezzecchi, held the lead for the majority of the race until Marquez squeezed past and cruised to victory.

MARQUEZ: "HAPPY TO BE ON THE TOP OF THE PODIUM"
It was another glorious weekend for Marc Marquez as he pulled off the double once again, this time claiming the 1000th official MotoGP race victory.
The six-time world champion is inching closer and closer to securing another title in the premier class, with over 200 points in the standings over his nearest competitor.
Marquez said: "Yeah, super, super happy to finally take the first victory here in Austria.
"As I say, on Thursday, we will see this wear on the red bike.
"And yeah, it worked super good.
"We found a good setup, especially with the used tyres, as we saw with Marco in the first part.
"He was super strong, but then I just waited. I tried in the beginning, but it was too risky.
"Then I preferred to wait and attack in the end.
"But I knew Aldeguer arrived, and it was all the gear this time, and he was running super fast.
"Yeah, happy six victories in a row, but keep focus, and next week we have another race.
"But yeah, I enjoyed it, and super happy to be on the top of the podium for Pau Alsina."

ALDEGUER: "THIS RACE IS FOR BORJA GOMEZ AND PAU ALSINA"
Rookie Fermin Aldeguer dedicates his second-place victory to young Spanish riders Borja Gomez and Pau Alsina, who both passed away recently in racing accidents.
Alsina, 17, suffered a fatal crash during a practice session at Aragon last month, while Gomez, 20, passed after a crash at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France.
Aldeguer climbed from sixth to second in an exciting race that saw him challenge the six-time world champion Marc Marquez for the lead.
Aldeguer said: "I'm super happy because at the end, Austria is not one of my favourite tracks like Le Mans.
"Having the two podiums in bad tracks for me is incredible.
"Dan, we know that with your style, we are super fast.
"We have to continue working.
"Thank you to all the Gresini team, to Ducati, and this race is for Borja Gomez and Pau Alsina."

BEZZECCHI: "I GAVE MY ALL, AS ALWAYS"
Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi started on pole position and managed to hold the lead for a majority of the race until Marc Marquez stormed past.
Bezzecchi was then vulnerable to Fermin Aldeguer, who shot past and claimed a second-place finish. The Aprilia rider did well to recover from a tough Friday.
Bezzecchi said: "Yeah, I'm very, very happy about the weekend.
"You know, in general, we recovered from a very tough Friday and to bounce back with a pole position and then a podium today, is amazing.
"I have to say that I gave my all as always.
"But unfortunately, in the end, I had some problems on the bike, and I had to back up.
"But yeah, my team, the whole factory, did a wonderful job.
"I want to say thanks to them, to Vale, to the academy, all my friends who are here."

MARQUEZ RELISHES IN STYRIAN GLORY
Marc Marquez has shockingly just earned his very first victory at the Red Bull Ring, winning six consecutive Grands Prix since his record-breaking 2014 season.
The 20-year-old rookie, Fermin Aldeguer, managed to overtake the polesitter Marco Bezzecchi for second place.
Bezzecchi came home in third place, rounding off the podium for Aprilia.

MARQUEZ CRUISES TO VICTORY IN AUSTRIA
Six-time world champion Marc Marquez has extended his dominant form after the summer break, winning the 1000th MotoGP race with a stunner in Spielberg.

ALDEGUER CLOSE TO SNATCHING VICTORY FROM MARQUEZ
The minute Fermin Aldeguer passed Marco Bezzecchi for second place, he ripped two seconds out of Marc Marquez's lead. The rookie rider has only completed 13 Grands Prix in the premier class and could potentially score his first victory if he can catch Marquez.
Aldeguer is 0.7s behind Marquez with just three laps to go, while his teammate runs in tenth place behind Raul Fernandez.
Francesco Bagnaia looks to be struggling down in sixth place and was forced to drop a position for running over the track limits, falling to seventh place as he is stuck in a sandwich between two very quick riders.
Brad Binder hoped to find a way around Bagnaia, overtaking Bagnaia around the inside in an odd move that shot him up to seventh.

MARQUEZ SQUEEZES PAST BEZZECCHI FOR LEAD IN AUSTRIA
After a long wait, Marc Marquez finally pulled off the overtake on Bezzecchi, patiently sitting side-by-side on the opening straight and squeezing through the tiniest gap to gain the lead.
However, Bezzecchi retook his lead through Turn 6 and fought hard through the apex for his lead. The fight continued into Lap 20, as Bezzecchi wobbled ever-so-slightly and allowed Marquez to pass through.
In a flash, Fermin Aldeguer managed to jump Pedro Acosta for third place, showing off his fantastic skills in his rookie season. The Gresini rider is set to make up all the points that Alex Marquez lost due to his penalty.
Francesco Bagnaia is sitting down in fifth place on Lap 21, battling Enea Bastiainini for the position. It has not been a great race for Pecco, as Bastianini overtook him on Lap 22.
Fabio Di Giannantonio's bike was briefly on fire, slowing in Sector 2 as the marshals rallied to quickly put it out.
Surprisingly, Aldeguer is closing the gap to Bezzecchi at an extraordinary rate. The Gresini rider is quicker than both Marquez and Bezzecchi with five full laps to go.
The young rider pulled off a spectacular move on Bezzecchi, breaking late to squeeze around the inside of the Aprilia.

BAGNAIA PASSED BY ACOSTA AND ALDEGUER
Alex Marquez looks to be hunting down Brad Binder in attempt to snatch ninth place from the KTM rider. Marquez tailed Binder through the starting straight of Lap 17, and looked to close that two-second gap down.
However, the KTM riders have looked excruciatingly quick this weekend as Pedro Acosta sits in fourth place behind Francesco Bagnaia. He has managed to close the gap down a little more, with Acosta just 0.2s away from the Italian.
At the front of the pack, Marc Marquez is inching closer to Marco Bezzecchi but the Italian rider is experiencing one of his most perfect runs in the Styrian hills. Bezzecchi has nailed every corner, and not put a single toe out of line.
Through Turns 7 and 8, Marquez looked for a way around Bezzecchi but he could not complete the move. Right before we began Lap 19, Bagnaia ran wide through the final corner and was passed by both Acosta and Fermin Aldeguer.

MARTIN CRASHES OUT OF RACE
At the halfway point in the race, Marco Bezzecchi still leads Marc Marquez around the Red Bull Ring, pulling away with another gap to be created.
A yellow flag was waved in Sector 3 as Jorge Martin crashed out of Turn 7 in another crash, which marks this season as potentially his most disastrous yet. Martin slid into the gravel with his foot still attached to the bike.
The medical team has arrived to assess Martin's condition. Hopefully, he walks free of injuries. Meanwhile, his teammate was leading the pack around the track with a 0.6s lead over Marquez.

BEZZECCHI HOLDS OFF AN EAGER MARQUEZ
Pedro Acosta has managed to gain three positions so far in the race, sitting in fourth place on Lap 9, looking to catch up to Francesco Bagnaia in hopes of scoring another podium this weekend.
Alex Marquez is slowly gaining back his positions that he lost after the penalty, pulling off a clean overtake on Johann Zarco for 10th place on Lap 9.
The gap at the front of the pack is down to 0.19s as Marc Marquez tails Marco Bezzecchi through Turn 3 on Lap 10. A lunge may be on the way through Turn 4, but Bezzecchi has managed to hold off all this time.
Marquez could not pull off the move on Lap 10, so the riders went into Lap 11 with Marquez practically hugging the rear of the Aprilia. It is shaping up to be a scrap for the victory as the Aprilia has some hidden performance that we failed to see during practice runs.
Meanwhile, rookie rider Fermin Aldeguer has found himself in fifth place during his run around the Red Bull Ring, sitting just 0.2s behind Acosta. Another lap has passed and the order remains the same.

DUCATI DUO ON A RAMPAGE
Alex Marquez left the pits in 11th place, losing nine places from his starting position after taking his long-lap penalty. The chance for a victory in Spielberg is long gone for the younger Marquez brother.
Some track limit warnings have been dished out for riders, including the reigning world champion Jorge Martin. The Aprilia rider is currently in 14th place on Lap 5, sitting right behind the VR46 riders.
It has not been the best weekend for VR46, with Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio hoping to impress Valentino Rossi watching from the pitlane.
Surprisingly, on Lap 6, Marc Marquez has yet to catch up to Marco Bezzecchi and pull off the overtake despite setting the fastest laps of the race so far. Bezzecchi may not have a comfortable lead, but he has held off the six-time world champion.
However, Marquez has been slowly chipping away at Bezzecchi's lead and he sits just 0.2s behind the Aprilia rider on Lap 8.

MARC MARQUEZ ON THE HUNT
The fight between the two Ducati Lenovo riders is alive as Marc Marquez shot up to second place after snatching the position around the inside of Francesco Bagnaia. At the front of the pack, however, Marco Bezzecchi managed to pull 1.3s ahead of the Ducati duo but Marquez is now on the loose.
Alex Marquez is sitting in fourth place as he prepares for his long-lap penalty, which must be taken in the first three laps. The Gresini rider is running in front of Pedro Acosta, who cruises around the Red Bull Ring with his teammate Brad Binder right behind.
Binder got off to a wonderful start in the race, jumping up five places in the opening stages as he looked for a way around his teammate. On Lap 3, Alex Marquez headed to the pits to take his penalty, and this pushed both KTM riders up to fourth and fifth place.
A battle for third place was sparked between Bagnaia and Acosta, as the young KTM rider tried to shoot down the inside of the Italian. However, Bagnaia seemed to hold off his advances rather well, retaining the third-place position through Lap 4.

BEZZECCHI HOLDS BAGNAIA OFF FOR THE LEAD
Francesco Bagnaia got off to a blisteringly quick start as he shot up from third to the lead briefly, but the pole sitter shut the move down heading into the first corner. Marco Bezzecchi retained the lead as the two Ducati Lenovo riders battled it out into Turn 4 for second place, and Bagnaia was the winner in red.
The battle was continued through the second sector of the iconic Red Bull Ring, as Marc Marquez attempted another move on his teammate and finally pulled it off on the opening of Lap 2.

FIVE MINUTES TO GO...
There are just five minutes to go until the Grand Prix Austria gets underway. The grid is all set for racing as they park their bikes on the Red Bull Ring starting grid.
The track temperature is 42°C as the riders complete the warm up lap.

VINALES TO EXTEND ABSENCE WITH SHOULDER INJURY
KTM rider Maverick Vinales has been declared unfit to race and has been sidelined for potentially four consecutive Grands Prix. Vinales picked up a shoulder injury at the Sachsenring before the summer break but attempted to race this weekend.
He was quickly withdrawn from the Grand Prix Austria after three laps of qualifying forced him to stand down. Having never missed a MotoGP round due to injury before, Vinales’ absence will be extended through the next three rounds at the very minimum.
Vinales was advised by both MotoGP doctors and his surgeon that racing could worsen his injury and cause long-term damage. His best bet for jumping on track again is the Grand Prix Barcelona, which is set to take place in early September.

NOT THE YEAR FOR BAGNAIA
It’s shaping up to be one of Francesco Bagnaia’s unluckiest seasons as he struggles to find harmony with the GP25. Bagnaia fell from third place to 14th in the opening stages of the race, and eventually retired from the Austrian Sprint yesterday.
Bagnaia shared: "Difficult to explain well, but I started super bad.
"Already on the warm-up lap I felt something strange on the rear tyre. And when I started, the rear was spinning a lot.
"Then after three laps I completely finished the rear tyre, and then I started to shake a lot on the straights and I had to stop because I arrived to the first corner without a front brake because of the shaking.
"So, honestly, nothing worked during the Sprint, and I’m just waiting for Michelin to explain to me what really happened, because I really know that they don’t know what happened. But working together will help us to improve."
12:40
HOW THE SPRINT WENT
Six-time world champion, Marc Marquez, claimed the Sprint win with a dominant performance around the Red Bull Ring.
Although he started in fourth, Marquez leapt up into second at the start, and remained close behind Alex Marquez, who snatched the lead from polesitter Marco Bezzecchi off the line.
Pedro Acosta launched into fourth at the start, and made a gutsy move past Bezzecchi on lap two, clinching the third-place spot for his second consecutive Sprint podium.
Marquez's teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, suffered a very poor start, wheelspin dropping him right down the pack, and later retired from the race.
Trackhouse's Raul Fernandez made a promising start, progressing from ninth to fifth. He battled with Brad Binder for the spot, the South African rider coming out on top. Fernandez later retired due to a suspected ride height device issue.

HODGSON CLAIMS MARC MARQUEZ IS THE PERFECT RIDER
TNT Sports MotoGP pundit Neil Hodgson explains in his first Friday column why Ducati Lenovo rider Marc Marquez is so special, as well as saying he has every chance to make it an astonishing ten MotoGP world titles.
Hodgson describes the bravery and technique that is unmatched by the Spaniard's rivals, and argues, "if AI could design a motorcycle racer, it's him."
