BAGNAIA FEASTS ON MARQUEZ'S COTA GLORY WITH FIRST WIN OF 2025
Francesco Bagnaia picked up his first win of the 2025 MotoGP season at the Circuit of the Americas after a chaotic race saw polesitter Marc Marquez crash out mid-race.
Marquez has so far dominated the season with a five-race unbeaten streak until an error handed the win to Bagnaia who pulled two seconds ahead of the pack.
Alex Marquez has claimed a sixth second-place finish at COTA, which promotes him to the top of the Riders' Standings for the first time in the premier class.
The Gresini rider finished ahead of VR46 duo Fabio Di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli who picked up a crucial number of points for the team.
Di Giannantonio earned his first podium of the year after fighting to recover from his injuries that ended his 2024 season early.

"So I am very happy. I want to thank all my team, which is always doing a fantastic job.
"And I give thanks to Carlo and Vale that, and Luca who are working hard.
"Thank you to all."

ALEX MARQUEZ: "MR SECOND PAYS OFF"
Gresini rider Alex Marquez has claimed a sixth second-place finish this year, catapulting himself to the top of the Riders' Standings.
Marquez has been incredibly consistent so far this season and now leads the championship, overtaking his brother Marc Marquez off-track, where it truly matters.
Marquez said: "Yeah, nice. I mean, yeah, nice race.
"The team did an amazing job, and now we are leading the championship.
"I mean, it is something that is really great.
"We are the Mr. Second but, you know, Mr. Second also pays off.
"So I'm super happy, thanks to all the people that were amazing -crowd - and, I mean, yeah we need to keep going."

DI GIANNANTONIO: "DIGI IS BACK"
Fabio Di Giannantonio has picked up his first podium of the year for VR46, returning to the podium after multiple surgeries hindered his hopes for the future.
The VR46 rider put in a perfect and clean race, securing crucial points for the team alongside fourth-place finisher and teammate Franco Morbidelli.
Di Giannantoinio said: "Is amazing, amazing. I wanted to do it. I wanted to do it for me, for our winter, for the team.
"I wanted to do the podium with this team. Such a great team and teamwork.
"What can I say? And I'm stressed, tired, tired as ****.
"Honestly, I need like 100, 200 beers this night to recover, and it will help me, for sure.
"But then, yeah, just super happy, amazing performance, for sure.
"We took the little gift of Marc but hey, that's racing.
"We are the podium, so we're enjoying.

PECCO PROVES VICTORIOUS IN COTA
Francesco Bagnaia is victorious once again, claiming an emphatic victory at the Circuit of the Americas to break Marc Marquez's five-race winning streak.
Bagnaia inherited the lead after Marquez crashed out of the race after taking a wet curb too hard, and the Italian rider pulled 2.3s ahead of second-place finisher Alex Marquez.
This outcome has promoted Alex Marquez to the top of the Riders' Standings as he leads the championship for the very first time in the premier class.
Fabio Di Giannantonio joins the two riders on the podium, finishing third in the race after a consistent and clean race.

BAGNAIA IS NEARING VICTORY
You can tell Francesco Bagnaia has missed being in the lead. He has pulled 2.9s ahead of Alex Marquez and is running his factory Ducati bike smoothly around the Circuit of the Americas. Marquez may be playing it safe after watching his brother slide off the track due to a wet curb, but he still remains in second place.
Rookie rider Fermin Aldeguer has pulled off a sensational move on Johann Zarco, tailing him through Sector 2 before snatching sixth place from Zarco. The young rider managed to force Zarco to run far too wide into the corner and overtook him after the gap was created.
It is a rough day for KTM as only two riders remain on track. Enea Bastianini is the only KTM in the points currently, sitting in ninth place behind Marco Bezzecchi. MotoGP newcomer Ai Ogura rides just outside of the points, tailing Luca Marini who is currently in 10th place.
In a flash, Bezzecchi jumped Zarco and Bastiainini for seventh place in an aggressive lunge around the corner. The riders are using surprisingly aggressive moves in such tricky conditions. Two riders went far too aggressive in the final sector, both Zarco and Aldeguer crashed out of the race after diving around the wet corners.

PECCO PULLS TWO SECONDS AHEAD OF ALEX
Two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia leads the Grand Prix America as he looks to feast on Marc Marquez's spoils. The polesitter and so-far unbeaten rider slipped up heading into Turn 4 on Lap 9 after taking the curb too hard, handing his lead to his teammate. Marquez is running in 20th place after choosing to keep the bike on track rather than flee to the pitlane.
Four Ducati riders are at the front of the pack with Bagnaia leading Gresini's Alex Marquez. Marquez sits in front of Fabio Di Giannantonio who could potentially claim a podium position if not for Franco Morbidelli who creeps behind in fourth place.
Joan Mir has crashed out of the race at Turn 12. The fight for fifth is alive and well as Brad Binder has finally managed to snatch the position from Jack Miller who may be struggling to keep his tyres cool. He falls under added pressure from Johann Zarco, who is riding 0.2s quicker than him.
At the front of the pack, Bagnaia leads Alex Marquez by 2.2s.

MARQUEZ LEADS BUT BAGNAIA IS ON HIS TAIL
It looks like a battle between the factory Ducati riders is shaping up. Francesco Bagnaia begins to slowly cut away the gap Marc Marquez built to his brother Alex before the Italian rider pulled off a seamless overtake. To defend hard from his teammate, Marc has set another fastest lap in an attempt to rebuild the gap. On Lap 6, Marquez leads Bagnaia around COTA by 1.6s.
Another fierce fight between teammates is unfolding further behind as Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder fight for seventh place. The two KTM riders swapped positions in the middle sector but it was Binder who came out on top and led his teammate around the track. Acosta, however, is looking as smooth as ever as he follows a daringly tight line around each corner.
Teammates seem to be bunched up as the VR46 duo of Fabio Di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli occupy the fourth and fifth spots in the order, but Jack Miller is picking up the pace every lap. The three riders are inching closer and closer to Alex Marquez, who gives them a tow around the track.
Acosta slides off the track after running too wide around a corner but jumps back on his bike and rejoins the race.

A DUCATI MASTERCLASS ONCE AGAIN
Jack Miller fell under pressure from Franco Morbidelli who aimed to reclaim his fifth place position, joining his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio in the top five. This puts Miller in the vulnerable position ahead of an eager Brad Binder who looks to be on top form in COTA.
At the front of the pack, Marc Marquez leads his brother Alex Marquez by 1.5s while the Gresini rider begins to pull away from Francesco Bagnaia sitting in third place. The top three are a league apart from the rest of the riders.
The two Yamaha riders have opted for the soft rear tyres and seem to be doing incredibly well in these conditions. Miller is running in sixth place in between the two VR46 riders looking to grab extra points for the standings.
Ducati-powered bikes are working smoothly around the Circuit of the Americas, almost riding 0.5s quicker than the rest of the pack. The Factory team is exceeding as Bagnaia manages to snatch second place from Alex Marquez around Turn 12 on Lap 4. Bagnaia got a perfect exit from Turn 11 and set his sights on his teammate leading the race.

MARQUEZ LEADS WHILE ALEX AND BAGNAIA FOLLOW
A problem for Maverick Vinales has delayed the start a second time as he failed to get his bike started, forcing him to start from the pitlane. Marc Marquez recovered well from a braking issue before the race start, leading by Turn 1 while Alex Marquez was challenged off the line by Francesco Bagnaia.
The Gresini rider and the Ducati Lenovo rider reignited yesterday's battle for the lead as they scuffled heading into Turns 3 and 4. Bagnaia is hugging Alex Marquez's rear in an effort to jump him for second place.
Behind, teammates Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta engaged in a battle for eighth place. Binder managed to climb eight places in the opening lap, jumping Acosta for the position in the final sector of Lap 1. Jack Miller has also found himself in fifth place, the perfect spot to fight for a podium in this already chaotic race.

PIT LANE OPENING
The pit lane is set to open and give the riders the opportunity to stick with their bikes or choose a spare bike. The rain has stopped and riders only have to deal with possible damp patches spotted across the track. COTA's track temperature is 29°C while the air is 22°C, the crisp breeze and horrific rainfall from earlier in the day has cleared.

QUICK START PROCEDURE TO BEGIN IN FIVE MINUTES
This is a rather unusual start to the Grand Prix America. As we all know, the typical start to the race is for the starting grid to follow the polesitter around the track for a warm-up lap. However, a cheeky rider named Marc Marquez decided to sprint away from his pole position towards the Ducati Lenovo garage and swap his bike adorned with slick tyres for a dry one.
Not just one or two riders followed Marquez, but over 10 riders followed the six-time world champion sprinting to the garages. This means that the quick start procedure may force these riders to either start from the pit lane with their swapped bikes or their qualifying position on the starting line.

PRE-WARM-UP LAP DRAMA WITH BIKE SWAPS
Grand Prix America here we go!
Drama unfolded just before the start as multiple riders ran back to the garages to swap their bikes for the dry bikes. Drivers including Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia were spotted running for their lives to start from the pitlane, but the situation is as messy as it can be. The riders are all over the place as some are without bikes and some are running to the garage.
The race start has been delayed.

FIVE MINUTES TO GO...
The riders have filled their slots on the starting grid under the awful conditions presented to them at the Circuit of the Americas. Rain falls on the circuit, with wet spots forming across sections of the track. Fabio Quartararo has already struggled on the sighting lap, sliding off the track before he even reached the starting line.
Although the rainfall is light, the riders are likely to opt for the slick tyres as the weather is slowly beginning to clear up as time passes. The track is incredibly slippery as it is a greasy track due to the clay-like soil it is built over.

BAGNAIA OUT OF ORDER?
The two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia has been somewhat absent so far this season, failing to take the fight directly to the Marquez brothers. Although he has scored multiple third-place finishes in just three rounds, he seems to be struggling compared to his new teammate Marc Marquez.
Bagnaia challenged Marc off the line during the sprint yesterday, lunging ahead of his teammate on the entry to Turn 1. He could have pulled it off if it weren’t for Alex Marquez, who inserted himself directly into the fight and meddled between the two teammates.
The glory of Marc Marquez has overshadowed his title hopes. Instead, he has decided to look ahead to Qatar - one of his stronger tracks.
Bagnaia said: "If we had started the world championship in Qatar or Portimao, things would be different.
"But it's not that I started so badly. I finished on the podium and fourth in [the Argentina GP]. It's just that Marc and Alex [Marquez] did a better job."

WHAT MORE DOES ALEX NEED TO DO?
Claiming his fifth consecutive second-place finish during the sprint yesterday, Alex Marquez is closer than ever to earning his maiden win in the premier class. The Gresini rider qualified in third place and jumped Fabio Di Gianntonio for the second slot on the podium.
He was the only rider on track able to stay within two seconds of Marc Marquez, coming close to overtaking him at many points. However, Marc is experiencing a glory period of excellent form and cannot be challenged just yet.
Alex Marquez is as close as ever, starting the season with consistent top three finishes in most sessions. He looks more stable and confident on the bike this season compared to the last, and has reported riding much smoother during races. Is this finally the time for Alex Marquez to claim his first win?

REIGNING CHAMP MARTIN STILL OUT
The reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Martin has yet to announce his official return to the premier class. After suffering an injury during testing and undergoing surgery on his wrist, Martin has been watching from the sidelines.
We are heading into the third round of the season, and Martin’s return to the sport is still unclear. During his surprise visit to the paddock this weekend, the Aprilia driver has hinted at a possible return in Qatar but it all depends on his recovery.
Martin said: "Really nice for me to be here.
"It’s difficult to watch from outside, but the recovery process is going well.
"For me, it’s very slow, but for the doctors, it's going really fast! So this is good.
"I'm optimistic that I will maybe try in Qatar. Let's see.
"But for sure, it was a big and nasty crash - much worse than it seems.
"The doctors will check again my condition in Barcelona next week, and then we will understand exactly how the bones are and how they are healing."

HOW THE SPRINT WENT
Marc Marquez is enjoying an extremely successful 2025 campaign, extending his unbeaten streak by adding a third consecutive sprint pole and win at the Grand Prix America.
Marquez got off to a fantastic start, defending hard from the advances of his teammate and brother, and recovered smoothly from a wobble on track.
His brother, Alex Marquez, has just claimed his fifth second-place finish in a row with a clean drive around the tricky Circuit of the Americas.
The Gresini rider finished ahead of Francesco Bagnaia, who settled for another third-place finish after failing to catch the Marquez brothers.
If Marquez can continue his 100% winning streak to the Grand Prix tomorrow, he can smash his own record for most wins at COTA by securing an eighth.
