UFC president Dana White says Conor McGregor’s much-anticipated return to the Octagon will not happen before the end of 2024 - much to the Irishman’s apparent annoyance.
McGregor was due to make his comeback at UFC 303 in June but pulled out of his bout against Michael Chandler due to a broken toe - which he said happened because of a “lapse in concentration”.
McGregor has not fought since breaking his leg in a TKO defeat to Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
More than three years later, the former two-weight champion is eager for his next bout, but White has tempered expectations.
“We didn’t meet up but we talked, and yeah, [McGregor] wants to fight. So we’ll figure it out. [But] not this year. He won’t fight this year,” White said during a press conference.
It is fair to say that was not the news McGregor wanted to hear and he took to social media to urge White to schedule him a fight before the year is out.
"Ah Dana, December is the date!” McGregor wrote on X.
"Bring the calendar year home with a winning event! Come on now, what’s this? I am off to altitude next month to prepare.
"December! Tell Dana and UFC we want December! We deserve December!” McGregor said.
The next event on the UFC calendar is UFC 305 which takes place in Perth, Australia on Sunday, August 18.
Reigning middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis takes on Israel Adesanya in the main event live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
That is after a flyweight bout between Kai Kara-France and Steve Erceg.
