UFC: Tom Aspinall reveals Dana White conversation over Jon Jones unified heavyweight title fight - 'It's happening'

Tom Aspinall says Dana White has opened the door to a potential unified heavyweight title fight between himself and the current UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. Aspinall, the reigning interim champion, has repeatedly called for a unified bout between himself and arguably the greatest UFC fighter in history, and it seems as though the Briton's wishes might finally be about to come true.

Tom Aspinall has said that his much-anticipated undisputed heavyweight title fight against Jon Jones "is happening".
Aspinall, the current UFC interim heavyweight champion, has actively been calling out Jones ever since he knocked out Sergei Pavlovich in New York on two weeks’ notice at UFC 295 back in November 2023.
Since then, Aspinall has successfully defended his interim title against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in Manchester in July, knocking out his opponent in the first minute of the opening round.
Jones, arguably the greatest UFC fighter of all time, won his first fight in a year and a half against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 with a spinning back kick in November.
Jones has seemed disinterested in a bout with Aspinall, but UFC president Dana White has, according to Aspinall, told the Briton that the encounter "is happening".
Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Aspinall agreed with White’s previous claim that a fight between Jones and himself would be the "biggest heavyweight fight ever" and "the biggest fight we’ve ever done".
"I agree," Aspinall said. "That interview happened right after the Jones fight, and right after that press conference, I had a conversation with Dana.
"I was waiting outside that room. I hadn’t seen any of this stuff that he’d said. I was expecting him to come and negotiate a little bit, but he literally walked into the room, and said: ‘It’s happening’.
"I said that he’s going to want loads of money, and he said, ‘I know, but it’s happening. It’s going to be the biggest fight in UFC history'.
"I don’t think [Jones has agreed], but nobody knows what he’s doing. I would imagine that he would be getting paid [a lot]. I don’t really care about money. I want to make as much money as I can, but what I care about is unifying the belts.
"It’s not about Jon, it’s about the belt, and that’s all I care about."
