Jon Rahm put himself in a strong position to snap a winless run dating back to 2024 after surging to the top of the leaderboard at LIV Golf Hong Kong.
Rahm won the individual title in 2025, but did it on the back of consistent finishes as he failed to enter the winner’s circle last year.
He started 2026 in similarly good form, as he claimed second-placed finishes in Riyadh and Adelaide.
Rahm will look to go one better in Hong Kong, and has an excellent chance after making a big move on Saturday at Fanling.
In blustery conditions, the Spaniard made a shaky start to his round, and he was forced to hit a provisional on his opening hole only to find his first ball. He was similarly wayward on the third, but managed to make a birdie from the rough.
From the third hole, Rahm spent a lot of his round firing darts at pins with short irons.Â

The short-iron clinic yielded seven birdies and, as reported on TNT Sports’ coverage, he extended his run of under-par rounds to 20 when signing for a 65 to climb to 17-under.
"It was quite a bit better than the first two days," Rahm said on TNT Sports. "Off the tee, there were still a few tee shots - the swing on 10 - that are a lot worse than I’d like a miss to be.
"I cleaned up a bit on a lot more difficult day, and hopefully tomorrow I can get it going again."
Reflecting on his run of consistent results without winning, Rahm added: "You have to keep putting yourself in contention and give yourself chances. As long as I am doing that and playing good golf, I will look to take advantage of the opportunities. It will come.
"I am playing solid golf at the moment, and hoping tomorrow I can have a good Sunday and get it done."

Thomas Detry is alongside Rahm at 17-under after a four-under 66 in round three.
Detry’s fellow Belgian player, Thomas Pieters surged into contention and revealed watching a post on Instagram helped something click in his game.
After posting a nine-under 61 to climb to 15-under, Pieters said: "I swung it unbelievable, I did not miss a shot.
"Something clicked earlier this week. I was watching a teacher on Instagram and something clicked in my swing, and it has been good."
Harold Varner III, who was inches from a hole in one on Saturday, climbed into a share of the lead on the back of a 63.

Carlos Ortiz, who led after the first round, is two shots off the lead - a notable effort after a double bogey and a bogey on successive holes mid-way through his round.
There are a host of teams in contention for that prize, with Smash GC leading the way at 44-under, two in front of 4Aces GC and three clear of Rahm’s Legion XIII.
