Bryson DeChambeau will enter the weekend atop the LIV Golf Singapore leaderboard, sitting on 10 under par, with five players three shots further back.
The American went 6-under for a second-round 65 to separate himself after the four-way tie that ended the opening round.
He began the second round with back-to-back pars, before birdieing the third, fourth and eighth holes. He explained he tried to enter the final 36 holes with a clear mindset.
"Focus on my golf, what I can control," DeChambeau said when talking about his mindset ahead of the weekend.
"I know it's cliche, but you can't get too wrapped up with what everybody else is doing, and making sure I'm starting it on my lines the way I need to, and rolling the putts on my lines like I need to.
"Barring that, I think I can give myself a good chance."
For the round, he finished with a total of six birdies, an eagle and the lone bogey on 15, as his game began to click in Singapore.
"Golf isn't about hitting it 400 yards," said the Crushers GC captain. "I proved that a couple years ago. You've got to have a good wedge game, good putting, good iron play. So, there is a balance.
"This golf course, you can't swing it hard out here. You can hit it far, but you have to control your ball more than you can kind of just bomb it and let it go wherever."
The competitors three shots behind DeChambeau include Thomas Detry, Jon Rahm, Louis Oosthuizen, Lee Westwood and Richard T. Lee.
Belgian Deltry is fresh off a second-place finish at LIV Golf Hong Kong, and with his momentum, is embracing the tough course at Sentosa.
He managed a chip-in eagle on the 18th hole off the back of the green from 40 yards away and finished the day as one of five tied for second behind DeChambeau.
"This week and last week, it couldn't be any different," Detry said. "I love both type of golf courses, and I love hitting 4- and 5-irons into a par 4 and I love having tiny little greens where you have to hit a 7-iron and a wedge.

"I think it's two different styles of golf course, but it's really fun. I'm just embracing it. I think it's a great little change.
"I've already proved it in the past that I can play well anywhere, short courses, long courses. I hit it far enough so I can compete in majors, as well."
For Hong Kong winner Jon Rahm, it was a 23rd consecutive LIV Golf round under par, extending the league record.

The Legion XIII captain made 11 consecutive pars from holes 5 to 17, and was pleased with his performance, insisting he played better than in the opening round.
"I played really good today. Felt like I played actually significantly better than yesterday, just little margins," Rahm said.
"Couldn't really make many putts out there today. Made that one on 6 and from then on missed a lot of birdie chances."
