Freestyle ski superstar Eileen Gu has said she will continue to speak up for herself against "trolls" on social media.
The 21-year-old has been the target of online abuse for a number of years following her decision to compete for China rather than the United States.
Gu, who was born in San Francisco, was one of the great achievers of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, winning big air and halfpipe gold medals, and a silver in slopestyle when she was still just 18.
Ahead of next year's Winter Games in Milan and Cortina, Gu has again given voice to her uncompromising style and approach.
"I'm not saying that you should go to war with every troll account on the internet, but I think that speaking up for yourself to maintain an anti-cyberbullying stance and to make the internet a safer place not just for yourself but for everyone, including the next generation," Gu said.
"Cyberbullying is never okay, whether you're a celebrity or a sixth grader in high school.

"If you have a platform to speak out against cyberbullying, I think it is really important and I've done that for a long time as someone who's gone through it.
"If you sit back and just don't say anything, then it shows those people that it's okay and young girls will read that and see that it's okay to sit back and just take it, and I think the world teaches us that that's what you should do."
Gu is expected to be the centre of attention again when the next Olympics are held nine months from now in northern Italy.
There will be comprehensive coverage of the Games on TNT Sports and discovery+.

"I'm so much looking forward to it, and I think it's going to be a terrific time," Gu said.
"The food, the fashion, history, I'm such a big fan of Italy and I had my first World Cup win there.
"I opened and closed a fashion show, a runway show right outside of Milan, actually in the place where Da Vinci painted 'The Last Supper'.
"So [I have] tons of memories in Italy and I'm just really looking forward to it."
