THANK YOU AND GOODBYE

That's it from us and the first E-Prix of the season - thank you for your company this evening.

Formula E returns on 26 January with a double header at Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. Join us then on TNT Sports and discovery+.

21:20

CASSIDY POST-RACE

'It's really nice [to start with a podium]. It's not been an easy weekend, but the team have been really awesome. Hopefully, this is the start of something quite cool and hopefully we can keep improving. But great race, I think we got fastest lap too, so that's a nice little cherry on top.

'Coming into the weekend I was quite confident, but I must say that with FP1 and 2 I thought I was in for a difficult weekend, so the recovery was really nice.

'I think we could challenge [Wehrlein]. The grid penalty really hurt; had that been P3 and a bit different, than maybe we would have had something for Pascal [Wehrlein].'

21:14

BUEMI POST-RACE

'Actually, it was a smooth race and the qualifying was obviously the key point - it's quite difficult to pass here. But I think we've had a clean race; I've had a bit of a moment into Turn 1 and nearly lost a position to Nick [Cassidy], but then I was just able to recover. Pascal [Wehrlein] was fast, I knew that he was under investigation, so I didn't want to try too much. I'm happy with that P2 and if it becomes something better, I'll be happy as well.

'The last five laps I kept undercomsuming; I guess I could have got close to him, but, at that point, to pass him would have been really risky, so I thought, you know what, I'm going to finish P2 and see what happens.'

21:08

WEHRLEIN POST-RACE

'It was a tough race because we were leading most of the race and actually that's not so efficient on energy. But for me, when I took over the lead, every lap for me was more or less like a qualifying lap, really trying to maximise all my minimum speeds. I saw that Seb [Buemi] made a small mistake once behind me which opened a small gap for me and from then on I think it was pretty controlled. Thanks a lot to my team, thanks a lot to all fans here - it's always great to be here in Mexico and I'm already looking forward to coming back next year.

'It's definitely great to start the season like this because last season, especially the second half of the season, was a bit frustrating. We stuck together, we tried to improve all of our weaknesses and I think, again, to kick off the season like this is great. But now we need to continue and we need to keep pushing so we don't suffer the same issues as last season.'

37/37

WEHRLEIN WINS MEXICO E-PRIX

Wehrlein takes the chequered flag and becomes the first winner of the 2024 season. Buemi does indeed hold on for second while Cassidy completes the podium in third.

36/37

ENERGY NUMBERS

The top four are all on four per cent energy left. Cassidy just about has the edge, but it's all fairly even and shouldn't be a factor.

35/37

EVANS STANDS FIRM

The most interesting battle on track is the one between Evans and Vergne. Somehow, Evans is still in fifth despite Vergne behind him looking in much better shape.

It's truly only is a fight for fifth now though with Gunther in fourth up and away.

33/37

WEHRLEIN COMFORTABLE, BUEMI PERSISTS

No problem still for Wehrlein with his race engineer telling him that 'everything is under control'.

Meanwhile, Buemi is doing a great job to hold on to second ahead of Cassidy and Gunther.

32/35

TWO ADDED LAPS CONFIRMED

It's two laps to be added on to race distance due to the safety car earlier on.

30/35

VERGNE EYES FIFTH

Vergne has the far superior pace here but he just can't find a way past Evans who now is effectively a road block with more and more cars bunching up behind him.

29/35

HUGHES JOINS THE PARTY

Evans is just holding Vergne behind him, but the duo is to become a trio with Hughes closing in. Significantly, Evans is on 24% energy, Vergne on 25, and Hughes on 26, meaning the latter should have the advantage towards the closing laps.

27/35

CASSIDY UNABLE TO MAKE MOVE

Cassidy has been told to overtake Buemi, but he just can't get quite within striking distance, losing time to the Envision in individual sectors of the track.

On the upside, Gunther doesn't look to be threatening Cassidy either while Evans and Vergne, if anything, are losing time to the drivers ahead.

25/35

BUEMI HOLDS ON FOR NOW

Buemi stands firm in second, resisting the pressure from Cassidy and Gunther behind him. The trio, in turn have a small advantage over Evans and Vergne.

23/35

WEHRLEIN IN CONTROL

Wehrlein has a very nice gap of more than two seconds in front and a decent pace, putting him in a perfect position to control things.

The same can't be said for Buemi who is getting company in form of Cassidy and Gunther.

21/35

VERGNE ON THE HUNT

Vergne is gradually throwing his name into the ring and edging ever closer to Evans. Half a second separates them now with no attack mode involved.

20/35

TOP FIVE

With the top five drivers out of attack mode, here is the current order:

  1. Wehrlein
  2. Buemi
  3. Cassidy
  4. Gunther
  5. Evans
19/35

EVANS ON ATTACK

In fact, Gunther might need to look back rather than ahead as Evans in attack mode is getting ever closer. Less than half a second separate them, but Evans is running out of time.

17/35

WEHRLEIN LEADS, GUNTHER FOURTH

Wehrlein is looking comfortable out front with Buemi not in touching distance just now. Gunther has less than a minute left on his attack mode and doesn't look within punching distance of Cassidy.

15/35

ATTACK GUNTHER, DROPS POSITION

Gunther opts for an attack mode, hoping to challenge Buemi ahead. For the time being though, he drops a position to Cassidy. Cassidy, in turn, is out of attack mode deployment, so if Gunther wants to overtake him, he will have to do it on track.

14/35

ATTACK OVER FOR BUEMI, STAYS BEHIND WEHRLEIN

Buemi's attack mode expires, but so far he hasn't managed to get back past Wehrlein. In fact, the Porsche driver has created almost a second of a gap at the front.

12/35

BUEMI OPTS FOR ATTACK, LOSES POSITION

Buemi takes the long corner to opt back into attack mode. He loses the lead to Wehrlein but manages to stay ahead of Gunther.

12/35

SAFETY CAR IN, BUEMI HOLDS LEAD

The safety car retires, there are no changes to the order up front.

11/35

WEHRLEIN TOLD TO STAY BEHIND BUEMI

Wehrlein's race engineer is on the radio and tells him to stay behind Buemi and conserve energy.

Mind, the Porsche driver has already used up all of his attack mode deployment.

11/35

ADDED LAPS CONFIRMED

With the safety car deployed, some laps will be added to the race. Just how many is yet to be confirmed.

10/35

SAFETY CAR OUT

Never mind the full course yellow, we're swapping to safety car now. This, of course, means that the field will get all bunched up and any gaps will disappear.

9/35

FRIJNS IN THE WALL, FULL COURSE YELLOW

Frijns loses the rear and hits the wall near the grand stand at stadium exit and that's his race over. With the car stationary, full course yellow is called.

8/35

GAPS OPEN

Buemi and Wehrlein are now increasingly breaking away from the field. Behind, Gunther is trying everything to keep Cassidy behind him and succeeds so far. The duo have a solid advantage over Evans in fifth.

7/35

BUEMI TAKES LEAD

And there's the overtake as Buemi moves past Wehrlein and into the lead. The Porsche driver opts for an attack mode to stay with his opponent.

5/35

BUEMI IN ATTACK MODE

The gap between Wehrlein and Buemi persists, but the latter is now in attack mode.

Remarkably, the only driver to not have triggered an attack mode yet is Gunther who is staying in third ahead of Cassidy.

3/35

PROBLEMS FOR MULLER, DA COSTA

Muller hits the wall after a slight collision with da Costa but is able to rejoin the race. He's not even last either with Felix da Costa slowing down after the incident and losing time.

2/35

WEHRLEIN BREAKS AWAY

There's a bit of a gap opening at the front already with Wehrlein around seven tenths ahead of Buemi.

Meanwhile, Fenestraz lost a couple of positions with an unfortunate spin.

1/35

WEHRLEIN HOLDS LEAD, EXCELLENT START FROM GUNTHER

Lights out and away we go as Wehrlein holds the lead from pole. Buemi remains in second, but it's Gunther who had the best getaway up in third, two places up from where he started.

20:02

ON THE GRID

Here's a reminder of how the drivers are lining up:

20:00

FOUR MINUTES TO RACE START

The drivers are in their cars and we're only moments away from racing.

Weather conditions are looking decent - nothing should get in the way of a great race here in Mexico City.

19:55

PREDICTIONS FROM THE GRID

Here are some of the grid's thoughts on what we can expect from this season:

19:50

GAME OVER FOR CAMARA

Sergio Sette Camara was meant to start the race from P18, but his ERT machine looks stranded on the track and is currently being recovered.

19:45

WHAT HAPPENED IN QUALIFYING

Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein stormed to his third Mexico pole position in qualifying, equalling the record for most P1s set at a single circuit. He will be sharing the front row with Envision Racing's Sebastien Buemi.

  1. Pascal Wehrlein
  2. Sebastien Buemi
  3. Nick Cassidy
  4. Mitch Evans
  5. Maximilian Gunther
  6. Jake Hughes
  7. Stoffel Vandoorne
