CASSIDY TIMES MOVE TO PERFECTION

Nick Cassidy timed his winning effort to perfection to take victory in Berlin driving through the pack from 21st to take victory.

The Jaguar driver took his second victory of this season’s championship and set the fastest lap on the final lap.

Jean-Eric Vergne held off a closely grouped pack for second with Oliver Rowland placing third.

A closely fought race saw two safety cars implemented after Joel Eriksson’s car stopped and pole setter Edoardo Mortara saw his car clipped into the wall.

With the race undecided a tense final five laps resulted in Jehan Daruvala crashing, but racing continued with debris on the course.

Amongst the chaos Cassidy came through the pack to race clear with just over two laps remaining and pulled out a winning margin.

Vergne had been fighting for the lead throughout and placed second, while Rowlands finished third.

“That was crazy,” said Cassidy. “It was great for the team, they were flawless all race, the comms and strategy were all perfect.

“I didn’t have the car to win today, but somehow we pulled it off.

Cassidy finished runner-up in the previous round at Monaco and victory saw him move into the overall championship lead.

Racing continues in Berlin tomorrow (Sunday) for round 10 of the series.

46/46

CASSIDY WINS

Cassidy has taken victory as Vergne holds on and fends off attacks from Rowlands heading into the final corners.

45/46

CASSIDY LOOKS SET FOR WIN

Cassidy has driven away from his rivals and has a clear advantage in front.

Vergne leads Rowland and Wehrlein in the battle for the remaining podium positions.

44/46

CASSIDY ATTACKS

Cassidy has gone for victory with two laps remaining. He has more energy then his competitors and is lapping faster than his rivals.

43/46

EVANS SLOWS

After seeing his attack mode end Evans has moved back down the pack as Vergne takes the lead from Rowland and Wehrlein.

Daruvala has crashed resulting in debris on the course, but no safety car or yellow flag

41/46

CASSIDY ON THE MOVE

Cassidy has moved through from further down the pack back into the top five positions. There is still very little between the top 10 drivers.

40/46

EVANS LEADS WITH ATTACK MODE

Evans has made what looks an important move as he leads after taking attack mode.

Vergne is pushed back into second but there is a small gap there.

38/46

SIX ADDED LAPS

There will be 46 laps in this race with six added laps due to the two safety cars and lost laps.

Vergne has a slender lead from Wehrlein.

37/40

DENNIS LOCKS UP AND PITS

Dennis locks his back wheels up going into a corner as he went in deep. He blocks his opponents and then has to pit with a flat tyre

The reigning champion sees his race ended.

35/40

FOUR FOR LEAD

Four contenders go side-by-side as the lead changes hand in every corner in Berlin.

Da Costa currently has a slender lead but is coming under attack. Evans is the only driver yet to take attack mode and sits in fourth.

34/40

BACK RACING

There are six laps remaining but four or five laps could easily be added here.

The championship contenders are gathered at the front and it’s going to be a frantic final few laps.

31/40

NINE TO GO

With nine laps to go the current positions behind the safety car are:

  1. Evans
  2. Wehrlein
  3. Rowland
  4. Da Costa
  5. Vergne
  6. Dennis
29/40

SAFETY CAR

It’s going to be race over for Nato who has to pit with a puncture. Moments later Gunther makes contact with Mortara and ends up in the wall.

Van Der Linde has smoke coming from his car and is immediately into the pit lane.

27/40

CLOSELY PACKED FOR WIN

With 13 laps remaining there is very little between the drivers as the top 10 are separated by less than a tenth of a second.

Wehrlein leads from Da Costa and Evans in third. However, that could change in one corner.

25/40

DENNIS INTO CONTENTION

Starting from the back row of the grid Dennis is now in firm contention moving himself up to eighth with the leaders closely matched.

Vergne leads from Rowland and the two Porsche drivers. Dennis also has more energy than his competitors.

23/40

DI GRASSI OUT

Di Grassi is out of contention after being hit from behind while in a pack of cars. His car is no longer drivable and he is out

20/40

HALF DISTANCE

It’s all to race for still after 20 laps as Da Costa currently leads from pole setter Martara. De Costa has just set the quickest lap of the race.

19/40

WEHRLEIN GOES FOR ATTACK MODE

Wehrlein has moved back down the pack after taking attack mode allowing his team-mate Da Costa.

Da Costa also takes attack mode and Vergne leads from Evans who has moved nicely through the pack from a 10th place start.

16/40

BACK RACING

With 24 laps remaining the safety car pulls off and it’s mayhem with cars all trying to overtake.

Wehrlein takes the lead from Vergne

16/40

THREE CHANGES TO POSITION

Race control has made three changes to the racing order with Wehrlein moving in front of Vandoorne.

However, they have made a mistake and the race order is shuffled slightly again

15/40

ISSUES WITH STARTING ORDER

The drivers are still under the safety car. When Erksson’s car stopped it was mayhem with several overtaking manoeuvres happening.

Vandoorne is one of the drivers who could be penalised.

13/40

DENNIS STILL HAS WORK TO DO

With a quarter of the race done Jake Dennis still has work to do and sits in 18th. However, he has more energy than some of his competitors.

12/40

SAFETY CAR

The safety car is now out and the cars are in a single line circling the Berlin course as Eriksson’s car is being recovered

11/40

YELLOW FLAG

It’s a full course yellow after Eriksson’s car has come to a stop. However, the cars are that closely packed that drivers have to be vigilant to not overtake under the yellow flag.

9/40

VERGNE HELPS TEAM-MATE

The DS Penske duo are looking to maximise their efficiency in this opening quarter of the race.

Vergne leads from team-mate Vandoorne and championship contender Wehrlein battling with team-mate Da Costa for third.

6/40

DS PENSKE LEAD WAY

The DS Penske duo of Vandoorne and Vergne currently are in a one-two.

Vergne then takes attack mode slipping down the back leaving Vandoorne to set the early pace.

4/40

WEHRLEIN TAKES FIRST PLACE

Mortara swings wide to take attack move on the third lap and concedes the lead. Others also follow and Wehrlein has the lead in Berlin.

2/40

TICKTUM GAINS PLACE FROM EVANS

Any hopes of moving forward early on for Evans have hit a buffer as he is in a battle for position with Ticktum.

Both Jaguars are as they started.

1/40

LIGHTS OUT

It’s light out for the Berlin E-Prix with the sun currently shining.

Mortara leads away from pole position but leading is not the ideal position when you can save energy behind.

14:00

WIDE TRACK OF BERLIN

The wide track in Berlin has been the talk of the day with sections where cars can fit five cars side-by-side.

However, the track also narrows at other sections making it potentially difficult for drivers to plan their attacks.

13:55

FIVE MINUTES UNTIL LIGHTS OUT

There are just five minutes until we get underway in Berlin. After this morning’s qualifying it’s sure to be an exciting race.

13:50

JAGUAR HAVE HAD MIXED FORTUNE IN BERLIN

Last year Jaguar sealed a one-two in Berlin with their drivers starting 9th and 10th on the grid today.

However, Cassidy’s car also failed to start off the line in Berlin two years ago which ended his championship hopes.

13:44

JAKE DENNIS CONFIDENT DESPITE GRID POSITION

Despite starting 20th on the grid Dennis feels that a top six position is still possible if he can stay out of trouble.

However, the British driver accepts that incidents would have to happen at the front for him to drive into podium contention.

13:39

EVANS HOPES FOR BACK-TO-BACK WINS

Mitch Evans will be looking for back-to-back Formula E victories this weekend in Berlin. The Jaguar TCS driver won last time out in Monaco and has spoken to TNT Sports about Formula E.

NIGHTMARE QUALIFYING SESSIONS

Qualifying in Berling threw up a whole series of shocks and the championship contenders have work to do.

Current leader Wehrlein was an early casualty in the head-to-head battles and starts back in sixth.

However, the German’s qualifying was good compared to his championship rivals.

After finishing second in Monaco Cassidy has to fight through from a ninth placed start.

Meanwhile, last season’s championship winner Jake Dennis had a terrible qualifying and starts back in 20th.

13:30

COURSE IN BERLIN

The Tempelhof Airport circuit is a staple on the Formul E calendar and this is the series' 10th visit to the capital.

The course has been re-designed this season but is still on the same old and rough surface which provides s difficult drive.

13:26
