Jenson Button is happily conducting an interview in the pitlane, and looks like he's a mile away from stepping into the car. It's been a very quiet start in this session.

Another thought on the seven-times world champion - apparently Schumacher's woes are 'nothing to do with age'.

Schumacher posts a 1:33.513, and Rosberg is not too far behind in second. That's a little more like it.

Mercedes took a good step forward in Turkey with Rosberg qualifying in the top three and competing with McLaren and Schumacher showing pace despite his erratic performance in the race. Will they be a threat in Spain?

Mercedes quite active at the moment - both drivers doing some straight line speed tests and pit stop practices.

Felipe Massa puts the first full lap down of the day. The Ferrari driver records a 1:47.387. Safe to say you'll see that come down considerably in the next 83 minutes of the session.

Lotus will be a team to watch out for this weekend - if you believe the noises coming from the camp this could be the weekend when the backmarkers find the extra second a lap which pushes them into the midfield.
