MIAMI GRAND PRIX - AS IT HAPPENED

From third into first, and cutting down the lead held by Leclerc.

Leclerc grabs second, Sainz third, and in fourth is Perez, before Russell comes in fifth and is followed by teammate Hamilton.

Bottas, Alonso, Ocon and Albon make seventh to 10th.

Not the greatest race you'll ever see, but a tactical and energetic encounter with plenty of action from start to finish.

There is little to be done for any car here, so if they keep it tight, it's another Red Bull win for their champion.

The lead has started growing again, and Leclerc trails by almost two seconds now.

Schumacher was on the verge of points, and smashed into Vettel on the corner. Vettel is now down in 17th, and Schumacher has pitted along with him.

The Ferrari is pushing it but Verstappen looks like he has just enough to stay ahead.

'Strategy's not been kind to me today,' says Hamilton.

Red Bull's champion has a 2/3rd of a second lead here but further back, Perez darts past Sainz and then pushes too hard, only to see Sainz back in third.

Bottas runs wide and Hamilton darts in, allowing both Mercedes in. Russell could yet push Hamilton for a position here.

Leclerc is less than a second behind Verstappen and he's good in the first sector. Further back, Perez is looking for a similar opportunity to take Sainz's podium spot.

Here's how it went down.

He retains the lead at the restart, while Perez is competing for Sainz's third, though Bottas is interested behinnd him.

It was careless at best from the AlphaTauri there, and he really didn't look in control. But it seems Alonso was to blame for Gasly's earlier problems.

The real safety car is out now.

Perez has now moved into striking distance on Sainz, with Leclerc now in second. He currently has the fastest lap time.

Norris is out! It looks like he's taken out by Gasly, he might have lost a wheel - certainly a tyre - and Norris is able to walk away.

Gasly goes wide on consecutive corners, Norris steams past the slower car and it seems Gasly hadn't noticed - and he catches his tyre and the McLaren spins out.

Russell pits to take advantage of the situation.

Alonso gets cut up on the inside by Gasly, and it seems fair enough as he had to turn at some point, but it allowed Alonso the room in the next corner to take advantage of Gasly running wide. Lance Stroll appears and takes advantage too.

Russell asks the team if he can stay out and see if a safety car comes out, which would give him an easy stop. The team respond 'Affirm' meaning he will get his way, for now at least.

Russell on his worn-down hards is in fifth and he's 11 seconds off the pace of Perez, but Bottas is a couple of seconds down on him. Roughly the same margin separates him from Hamilton, and there is a mid-level scrap on the cards for the two teammates and the ex-Mercedes driver.

Verstappen leads, 7.6 seconds ahead of Leclerc, who has Sainz behind him and then Perez.

The two second-runners come in for their new tyres, and Perez makes up 2.3 seconds on the Spanish driver.

Sainz takes the lead, but now we have Leclerc back in fourth, with Perez and then Verstappen.

'The car is so difficult to drive,' Leclerc complains as he sets the fastest time of the lap. In he comes for new tyres.
