Alonso starts in fifth, followed by Heidfeld, Massa, Petrov, Rosberg and Kobayashi.

What an ending to qualifying! Vettel claims pole position! Hamilton has to make do with second on the grid with Webber in third and Button in fourth!

Vettel pulls it out of the back at the death though with a sensational 1:34.870 to pip Hamilton to pole!

Alonso goes fifth as Webber stays third. Hamilton posts 1:34.974 to stay top!

Webber looks quick, but Hamilton's quicker! It's looking close as the clock ticks down!

Still just four times set so far...

Here we go... Alonso hits the track and is swiftly followed by Kobayashi, Petrov and Webber.

There's a lull now as the remaining six cars gear up for their late efforts. The Red Bulls and McLarens may even go again.

Vettel can only post a 1:35.122! He goes second and Hamilton is still on provisional pole!

Webber splits the McLarens with Vettel out on track at the moment.

Hamilton throws down a 1:35.000 to which Button can only reply with a 1:35.371!

Button joins Hamilton as the McLarens look to get their times in the bank early.

Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Nico Rosberg, Nick Heidfeld, Vitaly Petrov and Kamui Kobayashi are battling it out now.

Hamilton out early in this final session of qualifying.

Here we go then! Q3 is under way and in 10 minutes we'll know the make-up of the grid for Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix.

The top 10 shootout is on its way! And it looks like Button is the man to beat!

So, those dropping out at this stage are: Schumacher, Buemi, Alguersuari, Di Resta, Barrichello, Perez and Sutil

Rosberg displaces Schumacher on his final lap! And the five-times race winner here will start on the grid at 11th.
