JOY FOR CABO VERDE, DESPAIR FOR URUGUAY AFTER SPAIN FINISH WITH A FLOURISH
Alex Baena’s goal was enough to clinch top spot in Group H for Spain and victory over Uruguay, in an ugly match that leaves Marcelo Bielsa’s team eliminated from the World Cup.
A dreadful error from Fernando Muslera put paid to the two-time World Cup winners in Guadalajara, while in the other Group H match, island underdogs Cabo Verde drew with Saudi Arabia to automatically advance to the round of 32 alongside Spain.
Uruguay produced undoubtedly their best performance of the tournament but were undone when Alex Baena turned a poor Marcos Llorente cross goalwards, and Muslera allowed it to squirm over him and into the net before he was ignominiously substituted at half-time - a heartbreaking likely end to his glittering 137-cap international career.
And in the dying moments of the game, Agustin Canobbio crunched Pau Cubarsi’s standing leg late and was given a straight red by the referee, after Manuel Ugarte was stretchered off in the first half for a non-contact injury to his right leg.
Spain look set to face Austria in the round of 32 and the winner of Portugal and Colombia’s group in the last 16, while Cape Verde have the opportunity to pull off the greatest upset in World Cup history as they advance to play Argentina.

FULL TIME: URUGUAY 0-1 SPAIN
Spain top the group, Uruguay are OUT and they're gone in ignominious circumstances.
Their players collapse in tears as Canobbio goes to confront the referee today, they put in a creditable performance today and would've got a point were it not for Muslera's howler.
But the damage was done in their first two games.

CANOBBIO OFF
Uruguay's World Cup is ending in a shambles. Canobbio was lucky not to have been booked already but he lands ANOTHER late challenge on Cubarsi's standing leg and this time his luck runs out.
Uruguay are furious, they should have no complaints.

NASTY CHALLENGE
Nico Williams is thankfully more annoyed than injured, as he broke forwards and De la Cruz took one for the team and hacked him down.
In Houston, Cape Verde hold on.

NO PENALTY!
Uruguayans surround the referee after Vinas and Olmo collide in the Spain box, but replays show that if anyone was at fault, it was Vinas.

CAPE VERDE ON COURSE
They're into five added minutes in Houston and Cape Verde still hold on! They've looked more likely to score since the hydration break but Saudi Arabia are throwing everything into each attack.

SHOULD'VE SCORED!
It was all lined up for Torres after he'd cut through the exhausted Uruguayan defence then outwitted Rochet with his eyes.
But his shot hammers into the crossbar and into the stands, meaning Uruguay still have the slightest glimmer of hope.

SIMON GATHERS
Uruguay have their second shot on target and though Unai Simon parries it initially, it was too central to really challenge him.

BRILLIANT CHANCE
De la Cruz pokes the ball through for Nunez to chase and but for Unai Simon's lightning-quick reactions, he would've been able to shape to shoot!
However, the keeper does brilliantly to not just collect the ball, but stop himself sliding out of the penalty area while holding it.

BIELSA FURIOUS
Canobbio has put in a massive shift tonight and it showed a little there as he wandered offside before picking up a pass while stationary.

YAMAL OFF
And it's easy to see why as immediately afterwards, Olmo is hacked down. He's taken some punishment since coming on.
Williams makes his third substitute appearance of the World Cup in Yamal's place, and Mikel Oyarzabal makes way for Ferran Torres up front.

SANABRIA OFF
He defender Yamal really well today but Bielsa needs goals, so brings on Brian Rodriguez, another striker.
Earlier, Yeremy Pino replaced the goalscorer Baena.

CRITICAL SAVE
Saudi Arabia are throwing EVERYTHING at Cape Verde, and they don't care if they're open at the back. And the minnows almost took full advantage, forcing a one-on-one stop from the Saudi goalie.
Here, Bielsa made another change in the hydration break.

HYDRATION BREAK
Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia are still tied up, so as it stands the Blue Sharks are advancing.
When will Bielsa go hell-for-leather?

Pedri was walking the suspension tightrope tonight so De la Fuente smartly removes him, while Dani Olmo has the chance to win his starting place back as he's on for Merino.
