Belgium v Senegal - World Cup result as Youri Tielemans scores last-gasp penalty to complete incredible Belgian comeback win in extra-time epic

Belgium completed one of the greatest comeback wins in World Cup history as they recovered from 2-0 down late on against a stunned Senegal to complete a last-gasp 3-2 victory in extra time.

Trailing 2-0 on 86 minutes to fine finishes from Habib Diarra (25') and Ismaïla Sarr (51'), Rudi Garcia's side had been outplayed and out-thought with Senegal seemingly on the verge of the last 16.

But Belgium somehow managed to force the match to extra time as sub Romelu Lukaku tucked away Thomas Meunier's cross on 86 minutes before Youri Tielemans headed into the gaping net on 89 minutes from Leandro Trossard's cross, with goalkeeper Mory Diaw badly at fault in failing to gather the ball in.

The final act of an incredible contest saw Belgium awarded a penalty after Tielemans was deemed to have been felled by Lamine Camara, with the referee Saíd Martínez agreeing with the VAR after being sent to the monitor.

Tielemans coolly planted the penalty into the corner of the net as Diaw dived left to complete the victory, with Senegal somehow blowing a two-goal lead that they had richly deserved.

Belgium advance to a last-16 match with the USA or Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday in Seattle as Senegal are left to wonder how they managed to throw away their winning advantage so late in the match.

Almost another half played in extra-time! What a finale. No penalty shoot out. Belgium somehow manage to see it out in defence. Rapid and frazzled stuff at the end, but a free-kick by Pape Matar Sarr is blazed over the bar by Senegal, and the final whistle finally sounds. Incredible ending. Not sure how Belgium have won that match, but win it they have. Incredible.

Youri Tielemans is stepping up for Belgium after Ciss tried to delay the kick. And he tucks the finish high into the net! No chance for Diaw. And that is an astonishing finale! Belgium heading for the last 16 surely now.

Lamine Camara looks like he is late on Youri Tielemans at the near post. This looks like a penalty! And the referee agrees. Wow. Would you believe this. What an ending. But that is the right call.

Lukebakio sees the shot come off the bar and fly over. Should have scored, but VAR is taking a look at a possible penalty after Youri Tielemans was taken out of the action seconds earlier.
