World Cup 2022 LIVE – Pulisic winner sends United States into last-16 at Iran's expense

It's not looking great for Pulisic, who is on his feet now but being supported by two members of the USA medical team. The States are down to 10 for now, but Pulisic is trying to run it off.

With England drawing 0-0 with Wales, the current results would see England win the group and the USA finish second.

It's been coming! Dest is again heavily involved. The right-back makes a great run and McKennie spots it, lofting a high ball behind the Iranian defence, which is nodded across goal by Dest and fired home by Pulisic.

It's a deserved lead for the States, but Pulisic hurt himself in the process, clattering into the goalkeeper as he smashed in a finish from close range.

Another corner for the USA. Can this one produce something?

Almost...it's cut back to Dest at the corner of the box, but the Iranian defence is out swiftly to charge down his shot.

They've got to take one of these. Dest's cross takes a deflection but Sargent takes it down in the box and lays it off invitingly to Weah.

Weah leaps to meet it unmarked from 12 yards, but his header is weak and easily gathered.

We're midway through the first half and it's been a battle out there so far.

Dest has been one of the brighest players on the park, making some good runs forward from right-back and delivering a very dangerous cross.

Dest is next to whip one in and the keeper gets down and sticks a hand out to divert it away - these deliveries from the full-back positions are causing some problems for Iran.

Better from Iran, who are starting to see more of the ball. It's all very patient so far though, no big chances to speak of in the opening 15 minutes.

Iran can barely get out of their half at the moment, with the USA bossing possession. A draw will do for Carlos Queiroz's men tonight though, as long as Wales don't beat England.

Another cross comes in and this time Pulisic gets a head on it, but his effort lacks power and it's easily held.

Dest now whips in a cross from the right and a slightly chaotic punch doesn't quite clear the danger.

Another cross is headed back to Musah at the edge of the area, but he snatches at his shot and slices it well off target. Decent spell for the States.

Robinson whips a dangerous cross in to the front post, but Iran clear. It comes back to blue shirts though, and they work it nicely down the right until Dest loses possession as he enters the Iranian box.

It sounds like a great noise in the Al Thumama Stadium. Horns blowing, fans roaring. Fitting of the occasion.
