NEWCASTLE MAN'S DOUBLE SECURES VICTORY FOR GERMANY
Nick Woltemade’s second-half double turned a tricky away encounter into a comfortable win for Germany in Luxembourg which keeps control of Group A in their hands.
In the first half Luxembourg created the better chances with Aiman Dadari close to one of the goals of the campaigns when he exchanged passes and dribbled to the box before turning inside and firing just wide.
Another effort from Dadari, a snapshot with his left foot from 16 yards out, was even closer to the target while Oliver Baumann had to make a good save to deny Daniel Sinani, who spurned another effort from close range.
Finally, Germany asserted themselves after the break with Leroy Sane providing a perfect assist from the right flank for Woltemade to slide the opener and then Ridle Baku turned and fed the Newcastle man in the box for him to clip home.
With Slovakia defeating Northern Ireland, courtesy of an injury-time winner, it will be a decider when they travel to Leipzig on Monday though Germany will top the group with a draw, courtesy of their better goal difference.
