NORWAY BLOW AWAY ITALY TO SEAL RETURN TO WORLD CUP FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1998
Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway came from behind to thrash Italy 4-1 and seal their place in the World Cup finals for the first time in 28 years.
Seven straight victories had effectively secured top spot in Group I, leaving Italy needing to win by nine goals in Milan to leapfrog them.
Pio Esposito’s strike gave The Azzurri a half-time lead, but a devastating second-half performance from Norway turned the game on its head and fired Stale Solbakken’s side into next summer’s competition in style.

Antonio Nusa levelled the scores in spectacular fashion before Haaland took centre stage with two goals in two minutes, equalling Robert Lewandowski’s record of 16 goals in a single qualifying campaign.
Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen completed the rout, sparking wild scenes at the full-time whistle.
Italy, who suffered their first loss under manager Gennaro Gattuso, will face a play-off for the third consecutive campaign as they seek a return to the World Cup, having missed out on the 2018 and 2022 editions.
