CANCELO HITS LATE WINNER AS RONALDO LEVELS SCORING RECORD
Portugal survived a late scare - Barnabas Varga made it 2-2 on 84 minutes – to sneak past Hungary 3-2, Joao Cancelo sweeping home a gorgeous finish barely 90 seconds later.
Roberto Martinez's side took control from the off, Hungary sitting back and challenging their visitors to break them down. And, in the early stages, they could not. Then, on 21 minutes, a counter saw Dominik Szoboszlai feed Ada Nagy, whose fine cross was headed in superbly by Varga.
The pattern of the match continued thereafter, Portugal dominating without really threatening. But in the 36th minute, a deflected cross fell kindly for Cancelo, whose pass was beautifully controlled by Bernardo Silva; his subsequent finish into the top corner was every bit as good.
After half-time, Loic Nego was penalised for handball, and Ronaldo eased home the resultant penalty to go level with Carlos Ruiz as the all-time top goalscorer in World Cup qualifying with his 39th in 49 matches.
Hungary struggled to muster much in response, but with just six minutes remaining, Varga coaxed in a second lovely header, and out of nowhere, Hungary were level.
But Portugal immediately responded with the best move of the match when they needed it most, and the points were theirs.
They top Group F with six points from two games, while Hungary are third with one.

PHEW
Who saw that coming? Well, you're never safe with a one-goal lead but though Portugal aren't great at the back, to go straight up the other end and conjure a goal of that quality is impressive. Five additional minutes.

WHAT A GOAL! HUNGARY 2-3 PORTUGAL (CANCELO)
Cancelo catches Kerkez in possession high and Trincao sweeps into Berrnardo first-time, Bernarod then feeding to the edge, also first-time. Whereupon Cancelo arrives, opening body to pass a gorgeous finish inside the near post without breaking stride! Football is something else.

GOAL! HUNGARY 2-2 PORTUGAL (VARGA)
AND THERE IT IS! Nothing going on, a ball out wide, Nego crosses, Lukacs flicks on, and the ball bounces right in front of Varga, rearing up. But he's volcanic at the moment and he times his header beautifully, arriving on to what almost feels like a half-volley to steer in another belting finish!

HUNGARY ARE NOT THREATENING
But all it takes is a moment, and you've got to assume they force a few corners and get the ball into the box before this is over.
