Denmark 0-0 Scotland: FIFA World Cup qualifying result as Scotland earn draw with Group C favourites in Copenhagen

Scotland garnered a crucial point towards FIFA World Cup qualification with a goalless draw against Denmark in Copenhagen.

The match was far from a classic with just three shots on target all game, but Scotland's energetic performance made them full value for a draw.

Denmark, who felt the absence of long-term talisman Christian Eriksen, saw their best chances fall to skipper Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with one effort deflected just wide by one of Grant Hanley's many blocks and a header in injury time going straight at Angus Gunn.

Scotland themselves could have seen the game end in their favour with Scott McTominay's low strike being blocked by Kasper Schmeichel and Lyndon Dykes wasting an opportunity to convert Che Adams' ball across the penalty area, with the striker prevaricating before seeing his effort blocked by Rasmus Kristensen.

In the other Group C fixture of the evening, Greece won 5-1 against Belarus, who will host Scotland in their next game on Monday.

A fully deserved point for Steve Clarke's side who did not make it easy for the hosts all night.

A good cross from Froholdt into the box from the right flank which Hojberg leap to meet but he could only aim his effort straight at Gunn.

The cross was deflected and he only got a slight contact, but his defenders then managed to clear.

He was unhappy about a foul being awarded against him.

Hojlund got in front of the defence to steer an effort at goal but he blocked the shot and then the follow up came straight into his happy arms. The flag went up but it looked a close call.

He brought down a ball on the by-line, stopping it from going out for a corner, and drove an effort towards goal which was deflected wide.

Hirst drove forward into the Danish half but did not spot Doak on the left wing begging for a through ball. In the end he was brought down by Andersen.

Adams, Christie and Dykes are replaced with Hirst, McLean and Doak coming on.

But once more Hanley is there to the rescue getting a block in.

But, not for the first time, Hanley gets in a block.

A bit silly there clinging onto Froholdt's foot after being felled in a contest for the ball.

Any touch might hae seen the ball go past Gunn but in the end Johnston cleared behind at the back post.

Hojlund and Froholdt come on for Biereth and Dreyer.

That is rare, but the right call. Biereth had nudged Johnston which leaf to him blocking the ball just below his shoulder.

He misjudged an aerial ball and it hit his arm, which stopped the ball going through for Biereth - and now the referee is looking to see if is a red card offense.

Smart from Clarke as he had been booked and just committed another foul shortly beforehand.

But Adams does not gamble and attack it when it just needed a ricochet to put Scotland in front.

He had space 25 yards from goal, just to the right of centre, and he drilled an effort which would hae beaten Gunn but just hits the outside side-netting.
