RONALDO AT THE DOUBLE AS RAMPANT PORTUGAL CRUSH ARMENIA
Cristiano Ronaldo moved onto a remarkable 140 goals from 222 internationals with a clinical double as Portugal crushed Armenia 5-0 in Yerevan to make a flying start to their World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Al-Nassr striker might be 40, but shows no signs of slowing down with his second of the night a trademark piece of brilliance whizzing beyond home goalkeeper Henri Avagyan from 22 yards to give his country a 4-0 lead on 46 minutes.
Joao Felix bookended the scoring with a headed opener on 10 minutes from Joao Cancelo's cross before flicking a superb second into the home net to make it 5-0 on 61 minutes.
Ronaldo converted his first of a complete mismatch from close range on 21 minutes via Pedro Neto's cross, with Cancelo driving in number three on 32 minutes after Avagyan had done well to repel a Ronaldo effort.
In truth, a rampant Portugal could have scored more than five, but coach Roberto Martinez will be pleased with the finishing quality of the UEFA Nations League winners before they visit Hungary for their second qualifier in Budapest on Tuesday night.

    NO TIME ADDED IN YEREVAN
It ends Armenia 0-5 Portugal. And the home side are probably lucky to get out of this match having shipped only five. A flying start to the campaign for the UEFA Nations League winners.

AND ANOTHER TIMELY STOP BY THE ARMENIA GOALKEEPER
Pedro Gonçalves with the attempt at goal, but the ball is halted by Henri Avagyan with Armenia playing themselves into trouble at the back. Not sure much time will be added.

Plenty of honest application from Armenia, but not much else with Narek Aghasaryan replacing Ugochukwu Iwu in closing minutes in Yerevan.

ARMENIA HAVE KEPT ON PLUGGING AWAY
Just came up against a strong and slicker opponent, one ranked sixth in the world, but a decent hit at goal by Edgar Sevikyan clears the bar by a yard or so.

MARTINEZ STILL DEMANDING MORE FROM HIS SIDE
A neat moment of ball control from the Portugal coach on the sidelines as his side go in search of a sixth goal with Nuno Tavares just failing to connect with a cross into the danger area. Inches away from connecting.

HOME GOALIE NEEDING A SPOT OF TREATMENT
It doesn't rain, but it pours for the home side with the Armenia goalkeeper Henri Avagyan requiring a spot of deep heat on a foot knock before he is able to resume.

ARMENIA ALMOST FIND A WAY TO GOAL
Barseghyan with a testing strike at the visiting goal, but a very decent stop by Costa to prevent that from finding the net.

FIRST SAVE OF THE NIGHT FOR PORTUGAL KEEPER
Tigran Barseghyan tries his luck for the visitors, but no consolation goal for the home team as Diogo Costa is equal to the task in making a solid stop. He then dives to his left to keep out a powerful free-kick by Barseghyan.

Difficult to recall a time when a World Cup qualifying campaign did not revolve around these two giants of the world game.
