A crucial touch at both ends in a matter of minutes from Davy Klaassen!

Latvia go close to an equaliser! Van Dijk's misplaced pass allows Latvia to pour forward in numbers. Ciganiks' goalbound shot is blocked on the line by Klaassen and the loose ball drops to Uldrikis. With the goal at his mercy, it takes a deflection and Latvia have to settle for a corner!

GOAL! Latvia 0-1 Netherlands (Davy Klaassen): A lovely goal breaks the deadlock! Depay whips in a corner delivery, Van Dijk is clearly the target but it's over him. Klaassen leans back and rifles in a delightful right-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Gakpo drives to the by-line, pulls it back but Latvia scramble their lines clear. The hosts have done well defensively in the early stages of this contest.

Wide! Gakpo chips a teasing cross into the penalty area, Depay runs in between two defenders but can't get enough of a connection on his glancing header and it bounces wide of the far post. That's the closest the Netherlands have come.

The Netherlands deal with the initial danger as the free-kick is sent into the penalty area. But it comes back out to Emsis, who blasts his effort high and wide,

Just as I say that, a pass down the left flank sees Ciganiks win a free-kick for Latvia following a clumsy tackle from Dumfries.

Latvia, who are missing their first-choice goalkeeper and striker - have been camped inside their own half since the first whistle. It could be a long night for the hosts if they concede early.

Rather than shooting, Berghuis opts to float the free-kick into the packed penalty area and Latvia manage to successfully clear their lines.

Free-kick! Til is caught after the ball is gone and it's an easy decision for the referee to award the free-kick to the Dutch. It's another chance for the visitors!

Wide! Chances are coming thick and fast for van Gaal's men. This time Depay is presented with a decent opening but the Barcelona forward can't find the near corner he was searching for.

Chance! The Netherlands carve open the home side's defence with a series of passes. Depay tees it back to Gakpo, who slides it through to Klaassen. With just the goalkeeper to beat, the former Everton midfielder can't make a clean connection with his shot. It's a straightforward save for Ozols!

It's time for the national anthems here in Riga... kick-off is almost upon us.

Three games into his third spell, it's a case of so far, so good for van Gaal whose side thrashed Turkey 6-1 last time out, just days after beating Montenegro 4-0. The Netherlands had played out a credible 1-1 draw with Norway in his first game back.

It would be something of a surprise if Latvia were to get even a point tonight, considering they have yet to score a single goal against the Netherlands in a competitive game.

Kick-off is fast approaching!

The Netherlands cruised to a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture, with Berghuis and Luuk de Jong netting in a match the Dutch dominated.

After losing their first game in Group G, the Netherlands are top but level on points with second-placed Norway coming into matchday seven. Latvia are second from bottom with five points but could prove tricky opponents for van Gaal's men.

van Gaal on facing Latvia: "Playing against these kinds of teams, under these circumstances, is and will always be very difficult. They cross the halfway line three times, but then they have every chance and space to score a goal. In general, we will attack and they will defend. That awaits us, but maybe I will be surprised.”
