One of the tournament favourites France warmed up with a 4-0 victory over South Korea on the opening night, can Germany match their rivals this afternoon with a convincing win of their own?
13:45
China have gone no further than the quarter-finals since 1999, when they finished as runners-up. They are ranked no 16 in the world and have won only eight of 30 meetings with Germany. It would be something of an upset if they were to avoid defeat this afternoon in Rennes.

Germany's team is filled with rising young players - only one player is over the age of 30. Marozsan recently handed the captain's armband to Alexandra Popp, who at 28 years old, is one of the team's more experienced players. Fielding such an inexperienced side means the pressure is largely off Germany's shoulders and Voss-Tecklenburg's main aim will be to land a top three finish among the European nations, which would guarantee qualification for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Just like the men, Germany's ladies are usually there or thereabouts at the business end of an international tournament. They have reached the semi-final in five out of the last seven tournaments, but haven't won the World Cup since 2007. They were knocked out by the US at the semi-final stage last time out. They won gold at the Women's Olympic Football Tournament at Rio 2016 but lost to Denmark in the quarter-finals of the Euros a year later. An embarrassing last-place finish at the SheBelieves Cup last year prompted a change in coach with Martina Voss-Tecklenburg taking up the reins last November.

No surprises in Germany's line-up. The only real talking point is the fact Kathrin Hendrich is chosen ahead of Lea Schuller. Midfielder Dzsenifer Marozsan is Germany's key player and is looking to add to her 32 goals in 90 appearances. Touted as one of the best in the tournament, the Hungarian-born attacking midfielder scored in Lyon's Champions League final victory over Barcelona last month.
