ARSENAL CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE WITH WIN OVER BARCA
Arsenal won their first European trophy in 18 years as they beat reigning champions Barcelona 1-0 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in Lisbon.
Renee Slegers’ side headed onto the big stage as underdogs against the three-time winners, having started their own European campaign in round one of qualifying after finishing fourth in the Women’s Super League.
Having overcome Real Madrid and eight-time winners Lyon in the knockout stages, despite heading into the second legs both times with a deficit, Arsenal had to be patient against a dominant Barcelona side but were nearly ahead when Irene Paredes turned the ball into her own net.
The goal would rightly be overturned by VAR, who found Frida Maanum to be in an offside position in the build-up of the goal.
Despite that, The Gunners would have several opportunities of their own to counter the pressure of two-time Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati, with Maanum going close just before the break.
As Barcelona continued to pile on the pressure in the second half looking to find the breakthrough, it would come in the shape of a substitute as Stina Blackstenius and Beth Mead were brought on with 15 minutes to go.
Blackstenius would send an early warning just seconds after her introduction as she forced a superb save from Cata Coll but it was her second effort, which would make history, as Beth Mead threaded the ball to the 29-year-old, who fired her shot into the bottom corner.
15 minutes of pressure would follow as Barcelona hunted for an equaliser but it was Arsenal’s day in Lisbon, as they lifted the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy for the first time in nearly two decades.

THE MOMENT ARSENAL LIFTED THE UEFA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TROPHY
Here's the moment Gunners captain Kim Little was handed the UEFA Women's Champions League trophy.

WILLIAMSON: WE JUST NEEDED ONE CHANCE AND STINA TOOK IT
Having watched Arsenal pick up the trophy as mascot in 2007, Leah Williamson spoke of the feeling of finally lifting the trophy herself.
"There’s a lot of this team that has been together for a long time and working really hard to get to the next level," she told TNT Sports' Lucy Ward. "To do it on the biggest day, I think some people had the game of their lives and that’s what you need and we did it.
"We changed the gameplan a little bit in the middle of the week to feel a little more comfortable and I think that paid off but in the first half, we had chances and I don’t think people believed how good they were and we were wasting them.
"So we said in the second half, we just need one chance and Stina took it."

RUSSO: OUR SQUAD WANTED IT SO BADLY
Speaking to TNT's Lucy Ward after the game, Arsenal forward Alessia Russo said: "We worked so hard and it just feels amazing.
"We had to suffer a lot, they’re a top side, we knew coming into this game that we had to suffer and there would be moments where we wouldn’t have the ball and we’d have to be happy and content with not having the ball, knowing our moment would come.
"Our squad wanted it so badly."

ARSENAL CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE FOR FIRST TIME IN 18 YEARS
Having started their journey in the first round of qualifying, Arsenal were crowned champions of Europe for the first time in 18 years in a remarkable journey.
A change of manager, a rocky journey with plenty of twists and turns and heading into the game as underdogs against the reigning champions, Arsenal have done it.
In a game where they knew they would have to be patient and content with letting Barcelona dominate, Arsenal played their own way and proved a threat to the Liga F side.
Despite the disappointment of seeing a Barcelona own-goal overturned, The Gunners continued to capitalise on the glimpses of the ball they were afforded and made history as they were crowned champions for a second time, as Stina Blackstenius drilled her shot into the bottom corner to secure the win.
Having seen the team revive their WSL campaign following the departure of Jonas Eidevall, life under Renee Slegers continues to keep Arsenal fans excited for the future.

GOAL! ARSENAL 1-0 BARCELONA (BLACKSTENIUS 74')
Arsenal lead and this time, it counts!

Talk about impact substitute!

MASSIVE CHANCE AND MASSIVE SAVE!
Stina Blackstenius does incredibly well to come away with the ball as she darts forward. She has Beth Mead to her right but she decides to go for goal herself and Callo has to make a superb save to keep the scores 0-0.
