The game swung Sevilla's way in the 26th minute when Lille midfielder Mathieu Bodmer was shown a straight red card, and the home side made the extra man count three minutes later.
Midfielder Jesus Navas cut the ball back from the right flank for Frederic Kanoute to score, and just before the break Kanoute provided the pass for Luis Fabiano to fire home the decisive goal.
Sevilla were also reduced to 10 men when Navas was sent off 19 minutes from time, but Lille, who dropped into the tournament from the Champions League, were unable to respond.
