Djed Spence seals £25m move from Tottenham Hotspur to Internazionale after impressive World Cup for England - 'Time for a new chapter'

Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Djed Spence has joined Serie A outfit Internazionale in a deal reported to be worth around £25 million plus add-ons after calling time on his spell at the north London club.

The England international has signed a five-year deal with the Italian champions, and will act as a replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who left the club for Real Madrid earlier this summer. 

Spence joins Inter after a successful World Cup campaign in which he appeared eight times as England reached the semi-final. 

"A special chapter comes to an end," said Spence in a social media post.

"It's been some journey, with plenty of memories, moments and experiences that I'll carry with me for forever, especially that night in Bilbao.

"Thanks to all the staff members who've helped me along the way, the players who've become family and most importantly thank you to the fans.

"Time for a new chapter now, but Spurs will always have a place in my heart."

Spurs manager Roberto de Zerbi said earlier in the summer that he had hoped to convince Spence to stay at Tottenham.

But the north Londoners have depth in the full-back positions, with Pedro Porro and Archie Gray capable of operating on the right, and Andy Robertson having joined Destiny Udogie and Souza as options on the left.

It has been a busy summer at Spurs, with the club bolstering their defence with Robertson, Marco Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke. Luka Vuskovic and Cristian Romero have also left Tottenham.

Spence will team up with England colleague John Stones at Inter.

Spurs signed Spence from Middlesbrough in July 2022 in a deal reportedly worth in the region of £19m.

He went on to make 85 appearances for Tottenham, with the team's Europa League triumph in 2025 the highlight of his time at the club.

Spence also made his England debut while at Spurs, before becoming a surprise inclusion in Thomas Tuchel's squad for the summer's World Cup.

He is now set for a second spell in Italy, having spent six months on loan at Genoa in 2024.
