Arsenal given boost over Gyokeres
Arsenal’s hunt for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has received a welcome boost in recent days, according to The Mirror.
One factor is Manchester United’s decision to turn their attentions to Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins.
The paper reports: "Arsenal’s move for Viktor Gyokeres appears to be back on track following various reports around clauses being activated and personal terms being agreed.
"Yet the biggest stumbling block of all remains with Sporting Lisbon not yet showing signs that they will succumb to accepting a lower fee than his €100 million release clause.
"Those reports have coincided with Manchester United appearing to end their interest in Gyokeres, with suggestions now that they will try to bring Ollie Watkins to Old Trafford from Aston Villa. The England striker was subject to firm interest from Arsenal in January."
Everton battle to rebuild
Everton are struggling to reshape their squad after seeing 15 players become free agents at the start of the month.
However, Michael Keane and Idrissa Gana Gueye may return on new deals, and Jack Harrison might also be signed once more.
The Telegraph explains: "In all, 15 players were out of contract on July 1. Exciting Argentine Carlos Alcaraz was signed on a permanent deal and veteran club captain Seamus Coleman was retained. Both Idrissa Gana Gueye and Michael Keane are understood to be close to agreeing new contracts, too. There is also a possibility that Jack Harrison will return after successive loan spells.
"The start of July was always going to bring more clarity, particularly with those who were pondering their future having been offered reduced terms – most notably [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin. His departure, alongside [Armando] Broja’s return to Chelsea, means Everton need two strikers. They also want a full-back, central midfielders, wingers and at least one back-up goalkeeper."
Rangers target Aasgaard
Rangers have snapped up Joe Rothwell and are now looking at Luton Town’s Thelo Aasgaard.
The Daily Mail believes the Norway international will cost well in excess of ÂŁ3m.
The paper reports: "Rangers are in talks to sign Luton Town’s highly-rated Norway midfielder Thelo Aasgaard after completing the signing of Joe Rothwell from Bournemouth on a three-year deal.
"Aasgaard only joined Luton from Wigan back in January, but is now set to move on following the club’s relegation to League One.
"The 23-year-old was signed for a fee of ÂŁ3 million and it is expected that Luton will bank a decent profit on that outlay."
Wober set for Leeds exit
Leeds United may be strengthening for an upcoming season in the Premier League, but they are also open to selling certain players.
Max Wober is one example, with the Austrian international defender close to joining Werder Bremen.
The Athletic states: "Leeds United are in talks with Werder Bremen over the permanent transfer of Max Wober to the Bundesliga outfit.
"A deal has not yet been concluded but sources at Elland Road, speaking on the condition of anonymity, are optimistic an agreement will be found.
"Injuries ruined 2024-25 for Wober, though the form of Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk ensured he never had a chance of regular minutes when he was fit. He has two years remaining on his Leeds contract, but a summer move suits all parties."
