CHELSEA SURVIVE SCARE TO REACH THE FA CUP QUARTER FINALS AFTER THRILLER AT WREXHAM
Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro struck in extra-time as Chelsea flipped the Hollywood script to complete a 4-2 victory over 10-man Wrexham and progress to the last eight of the FA Cup.
The Red Dragons got off to the perfect start on 18 minutes when Sam Smith raced on to Callum Doyle’s long ball and calmly rolled a neat finish beyond a hesitant Robert Sanchez.

Blues boss Liam Rosenior made nine changes from the midweek win at Aston Villa and the visitors lacked rhythm until they were gifted an equaliser five minutes prior to the interval.
Garnacho’s shot was hacked off the line by George Thomason but his clearance crashed into the back of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and rebounded into his own net.

Wrexham were dreaming again when Doyle beautifully flicked home 12 minutes from time, but Josh Acheampong dragged Chelsea level for a second time just four minutes later.

The Red Dragons were then left with an uphill task when VAR intervened, leading to George Dobson receiving a straight red card for a reckless challenge in stoppage time.
Chelsea were initially dominant in extra-time and Garnacho hooked in a volley to put them on the path to the last eight.

Wrexham’s high-profile owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were in attendance, but there was no late plot twist as substitute Lewis Brunt’s header was ruled out by VAR for offside.
Chelsea then rubbed salt in their wounds when substitute Joao Pedro scored a lovely solo goal deep into stoppage time.
The Blues will now switch focus to a trip to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie on Wednesday night - live on TNT Sports and discovery+. Wrexham host Hull City in the Championship on Tuesday.

They pushed Chelsea, you can talk about their nine players changed, coming at a busy time for Chelsea, but Chelsea were on the ropes for long parts of that game."
