CRYSTAL PALACE COMPOUND MAN CITY TO SEASON OF MISERY WITH HEROIC FA CUP SUCCESS
Eberechi Eze struck the winner as Crystal Palace lifted the FA Cup for the first time in their history, courtesy of a famous 1-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Wembley.
The Eagles’ talismanic forward netted for the fifth game in a row as he arrived on cue to flash home Daniel Munoz’s cross from what was their first attack of the final on 16 minutes.
There was controversy shortly after the opener as Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson appeared to handle the ball outside his area with Erling Haaland charging through the middle.
The referee and VAR did not see fit to punish The Eagles goalkeeper, and he went on to take centre stage, magnificently saving Omar Marmoush’s penalty and also thwarting Haaland and Jeremy Doku.
The pattern continued in the second half, but Palace remained a threat on the break with Munoz having a second goal ruled out for offside by VAR just shy of the hour.
Substitute Claudio Echeverri, 19, almost marked his City debut in sensational fashion, but he could not find a way past the inspired Henderson and Palace held on to secure a shock triumph.

PALACE'S HEROIC GOALKEEPER HENDERSON REACTS TO CUP GLORY
"Incredible, we had a feeling it would be our day today," Dean Henderson said on BBC Sport. "The whole week has been building up to it, but the manager had a game-plan, we executed it and deserve it."
He added that he did not know which way Haaland would have gone if he had taken the first-half penalty, but was sure where Marmoush was going with his spot kick and knew that he would save it.
The goalkeeper insisted the first-half handball incident was not controversial as he felt he was inside his area.
Henderson concludes by dedicating the win to his late father, who passed away at the start of the season.

ALAN SHEARER SUMS UP CRYSTAL PALACE'S FA CUP TRIUMPH
"They were the better team, they deserved it," he said on BBC Sport.
He added: "They scored a quality goal, they were absolutely magnificent today, as were their fans."
Wayne Rooney felt it was a deserved victory for The Eagles.
Former Palace forward Glenn Murray said: "Listen to them now [the Palace fans], they probably don't believe it right now.
"I saw Eze sink to his knees at the whistle and he encapsulates what Palace are about, someone who has been rejected, but come back time and time again."

GLORY FOR THE UNDERDOGS AS THE EAGLES SOAR TO UPSET PEP’S CITY
Crystal Palace have done it!
Oliver Glasner’s men have won the first major trophy in the club’s history, making it third time lucky having lost in their previous two FA Cup finals.
It also sees Palace qualify for a major European competition for the very first time - the UEFA Europa League - and leaves The Citizens failing to win any silverware since Guardiola’s maiden campaign at the helm.
Next up, Man City must quickly brush off this huge disappointment to continue their push for a UEFA Champions League berth at home to Bournemouth on Tuesday evening, while Palace will expect a party atmosphere when they host Wolves.
